Galway V Kilkenny Camogie Semi-Final

(Oldest Posts First)

Anybody else think the refereeing in the camogie match was very one-sided in favour of Kilkenny? The ref was even wearing the Kilkenny colours for God's sake. I thought the Galway players were hard done by. The ref was like an extra player for Kilkenny. He gave a free out to KK for "charging" when Galway were threatening to score a goal. When the same thing happened with a KK player charging, he gave a free against Galway. He failed to give a free to Galway when Siobhan McGrath was clearly fouled as she went to strike for goal. Altogether disgraceful refereeing and very demoralising for an excellent Galway team who got no breaks at all from the referee. Gaillimh Abu!

You lot are always moaning about refs, do you practice this in Galway?
Oddly enough, I never heard any of you moaning about the ref in the Galway v Kilkenny match at Salthill earlier this year, the ref that gave a last minute free to Galway that won you the game. A free that should never have been given, according to nearly all neutral observers.

Have to agree thought the second half in particular he
gave Kilkenny some very questionable frees -on some occasions he only gave frees to Galway after the second or third foul was committed - in saying that the penalty miss seemed to know the stuffing out of Galway and Kilkenny looked the hungrier outfit generally after that

No I didn't think it was bad. The Kilkenny defending was outstanding, they brought huge intensity. Sure Galway got the penalty and the keeper hit a poor effort of a shot, then she let in a goal from distance that she really should have done better with. She should have dived at it rather than fall on the ground.
I think the reasons for Galway's loss lie closer to home rather than at the feet of the referee.

Save a thought for our girls in the other semi final. Gave it their all and were ahead for most of the game. However were over come by a stronger Cork team in the end.

Connacht teams need to be really on their game in All Ireland finals. Expect nothing, they will get nothing from GAA hq. Anyways hope they regroup.

I'll see your 'moaning about refs' there Cock, and raise you Alfie Devine & John O'Brien....just for starters!!! Galway hurling & camogie are on a geographical edge, and we 'get done' by Southern refs from 'hurling country' a lot. I didn't see all of Saturday's camogie, but the bit that I did see in the second half looked 'smelly' enough in relation to the referee!! A portion of these 'losses' by Galway sides frequently get dressed up then as a lack of balls, belly, bottle, or nous & belief is the latest one I see today. This 'analysis'/'caricature' of Galway hurling makes 'patrons' 'pundits' 'pr****' from 'hurling country' feel better about themselves, I suppose?

Camogie needs a black card. Or did ref not just use it? KK beyond cynical.

"and we 'get done' by Southern refs from 'hurling country' a lot".

It is you Cockney who seem to be suffering from some kind of delusion. This may be due to an identity crisis not being sure if you are English or Irish any more. Galway have been keeping hurling and camogie not alone alive but thriving over the years despite many challenges and obstacles being placed in our way by the deluded "born hurler counties" who resisted allowing Galway into their traditional domain where they reigned supreme. It was quite insulting to hear commentator Marty Morrissey declaring at the end of the camogie semi-final that "this result now sets it up nicely for a traditional final between Cork and Kilkenny". I'd have expected a bit more from you Marty. I'd have also expected some degree of independence and objectivity in calling out some very inexplicable decisions by the referee in favour of Kilkenny all through the match. Or are we too assume that every bad decision by the ref is off limits by the commentator and should not be criticised no matter how blatant and unjust. Players who train very hard deserve better. I expected more from you Marty. We know you want to be the nice guy and all things to all people, but if you are a match commentator and you see wrong decisions you need to call them out loud and clear for what they are. Gaillimh Abu.
