League Or Championship

Cavan were deserving champions of the thing last year and i wish people would stop saying they were lucky for to do so at this time. Roscommon haven't a hope of winning connacht, they peaked a few years ago under coach cunnernham and will regress backwards. And Galway remain unconvincing at bests. Dublin were as well be handed the leinster flag now at this stage because all the other counties have rolled over for them in that province, on the playing field and administratively in my opinion. They offer no resistance. In Munster the Kerry coach is out of his depth so Cork have a chance at it this year but once they get in a good coach then it's snack box time for them again. And a cola too.

Kerry will win munster
Mayo or Galway will win Connacht
Donegal or Tyrone will win ulster.
I am quite known here. (Ie plenty of people know who I am in real life) So I will gladly donate €500 to a charity chosen by hs posters if I am wrong in any of the above.
It just ain't gonna happen and I say that in a unfortunate way. Football is slowly dying. Everyone is focusing on Leinster obviously but all provinces are suffering, in the end I can't see it making a difference as none of the above will beat dubs."
Your predictions might well come true as the teams you mention are obviously the favourites. The fact two of the provinces have two choices is a positive in itself.

It's like a good horserace, there is obviously always favourites but how many of the field on a good day can hope to win the race! All the teams I mentioned can on a good day put a decent performance together, compete and with a bit of luck get over the line.

If Meath or Kildare were in the other three provinces I'd add them as contenders to win one of those other provinces - the fact Dublin are so far ahead isn't Leinster's fault in the same way it isn't the others fault when it gets to the All Ireland series.

I'm glad the provincial championships are in place this summer because I fully expect three of them to produce a very good standard. Dublin will win the All Ireland despite what's in place so at least prior to the AL series we can watch some great championship games - hope is what drives sport and as those dozen counties go back to training they'll be 100% targeting a provincial title; yes they might fall short but they have that hope.

Who dispatched of the great Ulster champions like it was a training match anyone that seen that game knows Dublin were on 3rd gear going through the motions and still won by 15 so how could any kind of luck beat them in a leinster final"
It is a one team province- that is my point- with some luck they can be beaten- Kerry nearly did it as did Mayo in the finals. On any one day a team can beat another one if things go their way. But in Ulster there are so many teams that can beat each other. Don't be so touchy about it would you. I was merely making a point. I hate when you do this to posters. It is unkind

Indeed we don't offer resistencia to Dublin but then they have only been beat once in 8 years. So it's not just Leinster counties

Replying To Lockjaw:  "Cavan won Ulster last year on merit and as reigning champions they will be the team to beat. People talking up Donegal & Tyrone? Neither would fancy a first round trip to face Cavan in Breffni. Naturally I hope that our lads will use the pain of last year's defeat to drive them this year, and no doubt Tyrone will be feeling the same about us. Monaghan & Down will also be sick at the manner of their exits last year too. Not to mention the shadow boxing that will take place in the league where ourselves, Monaghan, Tyrone and Armagh must all meet before Championship even begins. Who knows what markers will be laid down there, injuries and suspensions etc

So there are all sorts of sub plots in Ulster and it is dangerous in the extreme to be blithely chatting about €500 or €1000 bets. Lets see what the draw brings - I believe it's on the after the 6.01 news tomorrow week."
Ahh come off it. Leave the yarra bs to the Kerry lads. It is unbecoming of a Donegal man. U and I both know that either Tyrone or Donegal would take ur arm off to face Cavan in rd 1 than each other.

Not disagreeing with you regarding some good games. The cork Kerry and cork tipp games were great to watch last year. However I would have liked a once off open draw to see what happened, it was a opportunity lost. Particularly with little to no spectators expected. Can you imagine bringing Dublin to Kerry or mayo for a game ? The novelty would have been fantastic. And would have made for even more enjoyable games. Look there has been some fantastic games in Leinster over the last 10 years when Dublin weren't playing, and while Meath have progressed over the last couple of years to be best of the rest upto then it was anyone's and close games happened.

Yeah Ulster championship, what it's all about. Would hate to see it replaced with anything else. Hopefully our win will bring some life back into other counties. In my opinion the standard of ulster football has dipped over the last 5, 6 years but that can change again quickly
Tyrone I'd agree with those ranking them favourites. Lots of solid players but probably lacking an out and out scoring forward but if they can get everyone fit and playing, they have serious potential and new management will give them a new lease of life.
Donegal have numerous options up front but are seriously lacking in defence. I think they are a long way off McGuinness' 2014 team. McHugh, Mogan and ban Gallagher are all at their best going forward. I'm not sure if McFadden Ferry is available but Donegal prob need 2/3 top class defenders if they are going to take on the dubs.
Monaghan clearly cant get over that mental block and inferiority complex they have for their breffni neighbours. In fairness though Monaghan are a seasoned div 1 team and theres surely another big kick in the likes of McManus, Hughes, Walsh etc.
Cavan I honestly dont know where we are at. Wouldn't have given us a prayer at the beginning of last year but it's amazing what a bit of belief can do for a team. Suddenly instead of dropouts lads will be training hard to get in/ stay in. Still wouldn't be surprised if we were well bet.
Armagh trounced by donegal but I don't think they are that far away. Destroyed at midfield that day and were unable to evade the donegal kickout press. Lots of quality going forward Clarke, 2 Oneills, Grimley, Burns etc., Will need to improve defensively.
Down seem to have initiated a new found energy under Tally and should improve again this year. Mooney is unplayable when he gets going. Weren't as defensive as some would have expected. Will feel they should have made the ulster final last year.
Derry always have serious potential if they can get their act together. God knows how many ulster minors they have won over the last 10 years not to mention Pat's maghera. Huge fan of Chrissy McKaigue, what a player
Fermanagh were dissapointing last year but they also have some good young players coming through and had a good st Michaels team recently. Fermanagh will always do everything to win and are much more competitive in Brewster.
Antrim are probably the weakest team in the province but could well have beaten us last year. Seem to have a good management team in place and certainly wont fear anyone outside Tyrone and Donegal

Roll on the draw!!

The draws happen early next week across Morning Ireland and RTE News.

Something like munster Hurling & Football on Monday morning on the radio, Leinster on TV in the evening or some such nonsense. (not quite sure of the sequencing, but its one province at a time)

I remember for sure that Ulster is on the telly with the inimitable Marty Morrisey on Tuesday evening.

Yeah I'd agree with a lot of that. We do have a lot of attacking options - Murphy, McBrearty, Thompson, Gallen, Brennan, O'Donnell, MacNiallais, Langan and you could add Mogan and Ryan McHugh to that as well as both could comfortably operate at wing forward.

At the back we are lacking. Neil McGee can't go on forever. I do think we are lacking a bit of meanness back there. But hopefully lads like McMenamin and the returning McFadden-Ferry and Kieran Gillespie will strengthen us in that department. Jack MacCeallbhuí showed some promising signs last year too.
