Split Limerick In Two

Replying To Viking66:  "The All stars are a farce anyway. Nearly all of them are given to players who play in the final. Every year players who excelled in their position get overlooked because their county only made it to the SF or QF. And as another poster made the point that's not even considering some of the unbelievable players playing for Joe Mcdonagh counties that would walk onto most Senior teams and panels."
True I guess,, one good half of football in an all Ireland final could potentially land a player an all star but we don't really know if these guys would walk onto a senior panel.
As another poster mentioned we can't be sure if Jack Conway would even make the limerick starting line up, let alone give him an all star.
I do however remember a guy called Liam Watson for antrim,, unbelievable hurler,, not sure if he ever got an all star but won an all ireland club with loughgiel,, scored a hat trick in the final.

Brilliant player think there was some sort of falling out with the county setup. Never got an allstar.

Replying To Canuck:  "You won't get too much support for both your opinions on these forums. Denial of the correlation between money being one of the factors influencing success today. All sorts of reasons to support the lack of competition success of the so called weaker counties with the huge emphasis on the notorious tradition label. A farce All-Star selection system that does not recognition the stars in every county and subsequently does nothing to promote the so called weaker teams. However don't worry you are not heretics in pointed out short comings in the games you love. This topic of splitting Limerick I would think is a joke but I guess we need a light side also."
To be fair, if you were from Limerick or Waterford or Galway etc. and had a great year and lost out on an All star to a player playing at a far lower level... well I think the all stars would definitely be a farce then and no one would value them anymore..

Is a fair point too. That's why I think they should be done away with.

I don't like the all stars or hurler of the year. The only individual accolade I think is worth keeping is where players vote for their player of the year. If you have to select a hurler of the year for 2020 it may well come down to Tony Kelly v Gearoid Hegarty. How do you split them?

At least if it is their fellow hurlers (from all levels, MacCarthy, McDonagh, Ring & Meagher cups) voting then you know it is coming from a position of respect and admiration.

The all stars & team of the year just lead to a lot of disagreement & with positions meaning less these days, so too do the awards in my opinion.

Slayer, there's a name I've not seen here in a while. Welcome back. Well done on the c'ship this year. Ye won it in a canter. The closest anyone got was 3 points and that flattered us.
Moving away from the All Stars and back to the original topic, I take it it was meant to be humorous and/or mischievous. If Limerick do dominate in the next few years I'll be surprised. Not because of a lack of talent or not having the framework in place (they do) but because of life itself. Clare were expected to be dominant for years after they won in 2013. However, young lads get married, start to have families, travel abroad for career opportunities, find the commitment involved in playing and training a grind. I also think there's a serious issue heading our way in terms of player health and well-being but sin sceal eile. I'll let Limerick fans decide whether this is their best ever side but for me they're a mighty team and well deserving champions. Stay united.

Replying To Gleebo:  "Videos circulating on social media of large, undistanced celebrations down in Limerick. Looks very, very bad for the GAA.

And in the unlikely event that Mayo win on Saturday, it would be even worse.

Stay vigilant folks."
Mayo for Sam 2020.

I'm not one bit surprised at that and I would expect nothing less from them.
I think Mayo would be alot more sensible than LK.

No blackspot91 you just lost out to better player from your own county to represent it as an All Star. If you (player) have a problem with a player from Laois, Carlow, Mayo etc. been recognized as an outstanding player on their team then that says something about you. It might say something about the GAA and the promotion of the games if this recognition was given. That is my opinion and respect everyone else's.

Replying To catch22:  "They hadn't gone all season unbeaten though.
Last time that happened was near 60 years ago.
That is not normal service."
Maybe it is for good Limerick teams- they also went unbeaten in both '34 and '36 never mind, only joking

Sarsfield proved you could not split those Limerick people. John Kiely's the word and John Kiely's the man obviously.
