I haven't watched or taken an interest in the All Stars for a long long time. What finished them for me were two decisions both involving Brian Whelehan. In 1994 he wasn't selected and in 1998 he was picked at full forward (of all places) because a place couldn't be found for him anywhere else.

The last thing I worry about is an All- Star for Tadgh. The same cruciate injury and looking at nine month recovery if he comes back. He will be 27 when he turns and that is starting to heading over the hill for most in hurling. It will be disappointing not to see this great player at his best during prime years. These cruciate injuries are getting out of all proportion. With these strengthening coaches and medical staff you would think it would be addressed. May be they are the problem. Players so muscular and strong the joints can't take acceleration, stopping and twisting. Someone needs to be held accountable for it and not destroying the career and possible lives of these young men.
We probable should have a separate thread for it as it would be interesting to get the views of our posters. Some who could provide first hand feed back.

In my opinion Galway gets one all star and thats Concannon. Nash has been the unsung hero of the Limerick back line.

I actually thought Lynch was brilliant this year and done more than 2018. I hope he gets one. I dont think Whelan scored enough but I would have it between Concannon and Gillane and I'd give it to Concannon.

One of the reason why it is flawed is putting players in positions to facilitate other players. Players may play all over the place but the ALL-Star team is named by position. Simple pick the player passed on where he is consistently named to play. After that it is up to his manager who don't care if he gets an All-Star.
Selection is totally based on team success especially semis and finals. A player could be brilliant in the league and early rounds and not get selected. So not based on season performance. A brilliant year in the McDonagh and other competitions is not going to get you any where. Will Shane Conway or others get one this year ? Not a hope. He will get a bone thrown to him at the most as a replacement and that would be after a bunch of others turned it down.
You mentioned Brian. Pat McGrath over a 14 year career never got one despite been one of the best to ever play the game. Don't take my word for it ask the Hendersons, Joe McKenna Grimes and many others that played with and against him.
All-Star is flawed and getting worse year by year. If continuing as is should be called the Top Team Stars because it certainly is not applicable to ALL.

Ah here..no big Dan full back. Prunty leaked 4 points to Gillane in the final. Dan was rock solid all through

Was going through midfielders and Will O' Donoghue in my opinion was the best midfielder in the county all year - Jamie Barron next. Yes, they can shove Cian Lynch or Tony Kelly in there, but if picking midfielders, which is a unique position in itself, O'Donoghue has to be up there.

Scored 4 points from play in the championship compared to the likes of Gleeson who scored 15. His sideline consistency was out of this world but his free taking wasn't to his usual standard. Doesn't get a nomination for me. Donal burke 1-12 gets nominated as does Pat Horgan. The games in succession caught up with Canning but he had no where near the influence of Concannon and even whelan who also didn't score heavily.

Canning was very poor by his standards in general play, might sound a bit strange but I think he relies on his skill now, in the last 5 year's he's torn a groin and hamstring had a knee operation and got a bad concussion in the semi final, think it's taken it toll

"Big Joe" hardly got a sniff of the ball from play this year. 3 points scored from play in 4 matches is a pretty poor return.
