In truth, he should have been gone a few years ago. Supporters of his will point to the 2018 run to the final, and credit where it's due, getting there and putting it up to Dublin for the opening quarter was a huge leap forward from 2017. But Tyrone just don't look like taking that next step under Harte. . .playing a more open brand of football which they have the players to do. Attacking with more pace and getting the most out of their forwards. Huge loyalty to Harte & his family in Tyrone. The only way he will step aside is if he alone decides to do so - couldn't imagine a heave being supported/successful. However my feeling is that he would love to bring Tyrone to one more Sam (based on nothing more than a feeling) so he may take some time to weigh it all up. I really don't think that this is a matter for anybody outside Tyrone. Having in excess of half a dozen good players at one's disposal is not sufficient in the current climate because really you need 20 who are all up to the mark, all you have to do is look at Kerry or Mayo or Donegal over the last few seasons and Dublin have always found a weakness or a lapse in concentration and exploited it to the full. In this regard I think Mickey Harte is probably as good as anybody in preparing his teams mentally so I am not sure if a change will bring the desired results. A change of style may look better, like at full flow nobody looks better than Mayo but when the silly stuff creeps in and a winning position dissipates nothing looks so disheartening. Hard to know Wally. the easy answer is he has probably brought tyrone as far as he can and should leave now. The grass is always greener though, and theres no guarantee a new manager would come in and do any better. I look at Sean Boylan leaving my own county, at the time nearly everyone though it was the right time to go and he had brought us as far as he could, however now i feel if we had gave him another 5 years or so no better man than sean to create another meath team that could challenge. Instead we chopped and changed managers every couple of years and haven't progressed to be a real challenger for all irelands yet. Now Tyrone at the minute are clearly a lot different to Meath in the mid noughties, yous have a very very talented team and panel and always a steady supply of underage talent, a quality club championship and also yous have a few top level forwards which is massive for any serious team. The big question is who can Tyrone replace Mickey Harte with that can get the most out of the talent in the county. Unless they have someone lined up that is right for the job there is no point getting rid of Mickey Harte for the sake of it. Brought Tyrone from the days where it was , ah sure you done well to get to final to winning finals. There's the bones of a team there that can do it again. Fantastic GAA man and servant to Tyrone football. They should put a statue of him up outside Healy Park. However all dynasties and reigns come to an end. Mickey should maybe step aside and let a new man bring his own ideas and thinking. Peter Canavan possibly? Whatever happens the respect that most Gaels have for a man who bore his crosses with great dignity, fortitude and respect will never wane.
