Replying To Ulsterman:  "The Independent Group also owns The Belfast Telegraph, the No. 1 Unionist paper in the North. You will see plenty of the same articles in The Independent, Sunday Independent and Belfast Telegraph which are all very pro Unionist and pro partition papers. The Independent Group was very, very anti Peace Process Process, is rabidly anti-Northern Nationalist and lambasted John Hume for speaking to Republicans, that is FACT! It's all on record so to say that this is just a Sinn Fein view is patent nonsense."
The fact is that your view, and the view of cuchulainn35, on the Independent aligns with that of SF. And, of course, some non-SF people may share that view. But, it is the view, predominantly, of SF. SF attacks the Independent relentlessly on social media.

My original point was that if large numbers found the Independent 'shocking', 'anti-republican', 'despised' and generally a rag, they would not buy the paper? But they do buy the paper.

By the way, how come you and cuchulainn35 and browncows - people who surely wouldn't buy such a rag - purport to be so expert on the content of the paper?

In all fairness it would be hard to understand if SF did not attack the Indo. Pretty much all the main writers bar Gene Kerrigan never fail to have a cut at SF even when totally out of context of the article, O'Hanlon, Harris, Coleman, even their rugby writer Neil Francis regularly manages to get a dig at SF in his "sports" column. So not surprising that SF tries to undermine the paper.

They give away so many free copies that it's easy to keep tabs on it. The Independent Group is no longer ABC audited. Anyway there's an old saying "Keep your friends close..........but your enemies closer".

These lists are so stupid. Akin to a popularity contest and who has the most all ireland medals.

When I read the Leinster one and didn't see Niall McNamee's name I just gave up. I cringed reading some of the names above him.

No Martin O'Connell ?, No Pat Fox ?, No Tony Keady ? , No Michael Donnellan ? No Willie Joe? But worst of all I've used the new spectacles and I still can't see Jimmy Barry-Murphy's name mentioned anywhere.

A lot of people now say he's the greatest or close to the greatest of all time.
Had he been at his peak in 2008 does he be the main player in a forward line with Shefflin, Larkin, Power or Larkin. I'm not so sure he would. A top player but saying he's up with the best of them, I'm not so sure. That team also contained JJ and Tommy. At best he would love been top 4/5 in that team and I don't see how he rivals shefflin, Eoin kelly, DJ or the likes.
His career as the player he is today is quite short compared to some of the other greats. That's not dismissing him as a top player by the way.
