Pitch Vs Style Of Play

(Oldest Posts First)

Interesting to see that we have good track record at Ballybofey and Ballyshannon but not so great at O Donnell park. Could it be down to the pitch surfaces ..

I don't think that anyone could argue against the St Eunan's pitch being a better surface than Ballybofey and Ballyshannon

The heavier , slower pitches - not much difference in surface between Ballybofey and Ballyhannon - seem to suit our game more while we are not as effective on the faster pitch

Same might be said when we get to Croke park and the big teams for the last couple of years. Are Ballybofey and Ballyshannon a bit of a hindrance pitch wise and should we seek to play as many games as possible on better surfaces that are more like Croke Park so as to be able to perform better when we get to headquarters

The opposite could be said of Dublin who have a team for Croke Park. They are nigh on impossible to beat on Croke Park surface yet it's a more level playing field (literally) when they go to other county grounds - as seen against Tyrone at the weekend
