Did I see young Paul Kelly for the Galway seniors vs Mayo last weekend, I presume this means he's out of the U20 final now?

The rule was changed, he can play.

He's U20 again next year too.

I for one am delighted that rule was recinded.Kerry were badly hit by that rule.We lost all Ireland semi to Kildare in 2018 by one point who went on to win final and we could nt play Seanie O Shea or David Clifford due to rule.In hurling the rules were different. At least the Gaa realise some mistakes.

The rule shouldnt have been rescinded and it should have been in place in hurling as well

Under 20 is still a development age group. Clifford and players like him are above 20s and not using them allows another player a place in the squad/team.

I'm not sure User but hope it's gone for good.

It does allow other players in of course but damages the teams prospects. Also it can upset senior teams with some counties. Some might feel they have a better chance at u 20 grade so their senior team loses out on a few good players. That can have a detrimental effect of some of the weaker counties

With the new loosened COVID restrictions in place will this final be played in December and will the minor recommence. I have tried hard to find this but can't see confirmation anywhere

Saw something suggesting U20 final might take place before All Ireland football final

Don't think there has been confirmation. Be great if it was played the day of the Senior final. Though they dont usually play the U20 final in Croker.

I agree with you. The burn out factor that was the buzz word some time ago in GAA related to a small minority of players. Inevitably it was a guy playing Sigerson, Minor or U21 & also possibly playing Senior. Then all levels at club level be it Minor, U21 or Senior were held up because of the county man. So dozens of club players got no games while one player was trying to play everything & each manager flogging that one individual. An impossibility.
The rule should have stayed as it gave others an opportunity. The same rule should have been introduced at Third Level competition as well.
As usual the GAA hadn't the balls to stick with what was a progressive rule that was geared towards greater player participation, instead they caved into the few powerful counties & their media lobbyists.
Backward step from a leadership that are undeserving of the title.

I read that the minor will start on the 12th of December.
