Speculation is rising that Conor Laverty is in line to be appointed Down senior football manager and that Jim McGuinness will be involved in a coaching capacity.

It is being reported that the 2012 Donegal All-Ireland winning manager is in discussions with the Mourne County about the possibility of joining Laverty’s proposed management team which is also believed to include former star Martin Clarke.

Laverty and Clarke guided the county to Ulster U-20 honours back in the summer.

As things stand, Down and Longford are the only two counties who have yet to finalise their senior football management teams for 2022.

Paddy Tally stepped down following their heavy Ulster SFC preliminary round defeat at the hands of Donegal back in June.

If the county does end up recruiting McGuinness, the drawn out process to finding Tally's replacement could prove to be worth the wait for their success-starved supporters.
