The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 7 Like(s)

Replying To Crinigan:  "Perhaps you should focus on matters in your own juridiction. I literally could not care less who runs the north so long as the Brits continue to rule it and pay for it. Sinn Féin are not fit to run this country and they will not run it. If they ever do, it won't be for long. The Defence Forces, Gardaí and judiciary won't tolerate it for long nor will the ruling class (not the Sinn Fein class - ie parasites that feed off the hard work of others). They can runs yours if they want and (not very well of course by looks of things but that's hardly a surprise) and I'm sure you and your pals are delighted with that."
The most disgusting thing I've ever read, you're not an Irish man at all

Replying To Crinigan:  "And there we have in the past two posts exactly why SF won't be in power long. Galway poster calling our Gardaí the RUC! As we saw with the Crossmaglen crowd recently, murdering unarmed Gardaí seem to be fair game. Second poster claiming violence in the south if SF/IRA don't get their way... added a TAL for good effect. The terrorism and violence is just below the slim veneer of attempted civility. The vast majority in the south are decent people and don't want to share their country with bandits and terrorists."
Them very same "bandits and terrorists" are the main reason you even have a country to call your own, have some respect for your irish brothers and sisters in the occupied 6

Replying To James73:  "As repeated again I think Castletown really were so close last year that this is their chance, such lovely hurlers and that bit more battle hardened from last year. Clonkill on the other hand seem to be just thrudging along and getting results even with last years final starting team missing some of the strongest club hurlers in the county, some were brought on granted. They finished the final with a far superior 15 that started. They should of snatched it in normal time, but once it went to added time they were always going to dog it out. I predict a huge back lash from raharney as the hurlers are there just have not clicked for a little while, however I still have CTG and clonkill slightly ahead with Raharney very close behind. The Gaels for such a huge pick of the county seem to be over reliant on 2/3 lads and that just cannot work. Derek mc N, jogger and Conaty cannot win on their own and even young Williams is a good hurler but lacks physicality in my opinion. I hear they are back training in small groups, wrong on many levels with the current covid restrictions I wonder who organises it players or management? What exactly is the current guidelines around club teams training in small groups at the present time but I highly doubt it's allowed. Maybe this could be the year they cause an upset with superior fitness but I just can't see it, a nice team to watch but always a flop when things get tough. Who is managing teams this year does anyone know?"
Would you really say the Gaels have that big of a pick? A couple of miles in each direction and they're surrounded by other clubs, brownstown pollard Delvin, ringtown the wood and Turin all in the surrounding areas. Sparsely populated area with no big town or housing estates

Clearly anyone who is in favour of moving back to September clearly has never played club championship. Club players now have a clearly defined fixture calendar set out in Janauary as opposed to waiting to see when their county is knocked out and be made turn up for championship with 2 weeks notice. God forbid Club players which is 100% of GAA players, can now plan weddings, holidays, their life outside of GAA. The old way of April being the club month was a disaster, clubs training hard from Jan to play 1/2 championship games in April then not play another one until July/august. In Westmeath, we have a lot of dual players playing senior in both codes, which to get to the final in both takes 15 weekends of back to back games. How does this fit into the schedule without a clearly defined inter county & club season. And Westmeath are usually out early, how does a county like Galway operate who will expect to go deep into both hurling and football all irelands every year

Replying To Claretandblue:  "The Gaels need just a point from games versus Castletown and Raharney to definitely secure a semi final place, possibly already there depending on Clonkill and Pollards result this evening. It's a good season so far for LLG especially minus Jogger. If they qualify directly for final in October by getting one or two more points their management will have a big decision to make re starting him in county final."
What club team in the country could turn down an asset like jogger if he's home, is he coming home?

Wouldn't go calling it half of north westmeath, still a relatively small catchment area

I watched the game on Iarmhí tv. Highlights how poor westmeath club football is when CFCW won westmeath at a canter without being tested and kilcullen swept them aside with great ease

The problem isn't with senior second teams being in the competition, the problems lies with having the second teams in the same groups as the sole junior clubs, for example, the team a senior club puts out in the first round is typically stronger than the teams fielded in the later rounds as players become ineligible by playing senior championship , which results in it being down to the luck of the draw as to what stage you play a 2nd team

People say that club championships should begin as soon as the county is knocked out, unfortunately nobody has a crystal ball to say for certain when a county will be knocked out. Club players deserve a definitive date at the beginning of the year, not a wait and see how far the county team go. Players, both club and county should be allowed to make this decision, not paid pundits and armchair fans of the county who don't darken a club ground. If you ask players they love how it is. County players can even take a weeks holidays abroad between county exit and club championship now. I know of clubs in our county who had to train at 5.30 pm weekday in build up to knockout stages as they have no light facilities

Whats Going On In Westmeath Hurling? - 1 Like(s)
Everyone within Westmeath hurling knows that the team have went backwards since he took over. Yes they may have won the league but they've been at that stage for the last number of years. Performances on the pitch have dropped with only one forward playing well all year. Also numerous bad decisions throughout the year. Goal keeping decision from management team cost them that McDonagh final

They are playing Fr. Daltons tonight but who should win this game. I have zero info on it and have a decent cash out offer. Any info is greatly appreciated. Cheers"
Hard to see pollard being bet after a tough week on the club with bereavement.

Replying To Meridian:  "I think most would have no issue with the Loman's players but how the Club has conducted itself over the years in acquiring players from everywhere and anywhere would have annoyed many. Most Clubs over the years would have had a catchment area and stuck to that. Loman's changed all that."
Lomans have had players playing in senior county finals living in Delvin and Castlepollard in recent years

Replying To gedupoutofit:  "There are actually quite a few Longford hurlers that came from Westmeath over the years. Tbf to Longford they don't have much of a playing pool. The weaker counties have an allowance for drafting a certain number of outside players. I recall some limitations if the drafted lads played senior county in recent years."
Parent rule for a lot of the ringtown lads

Replying To wd45:  "Would have to fancy Clonkill again. Strongest panel of any team. The Gaels would be next then, from what i seen last year they look best place to mount a challenge. C.T.G. after that. Hard to call Raharney, they were so poor last year."
Gaels will never mount a challenge and win a championship, it's between the big 3 as usual, would say ctg, clonkill and raharney in that order

Replying To Yellow&Green:  "I'm doing up a map of all the hurling and football clubs in Westmeath and trying to map them to areas or match a hurling area to a football area. I know their is no parish rule and some football clubs might have no hurlers at all. A few questions if any one can help. - Where would Collinstown lads play football - Multy lads hurl - Ballynacarrigy lads hurl -CFCW lads hurl - what area do Southern Gaels pick up -what area do Fr.Dalton's pick up. - would the village of Rathown play football with Bun. - Any hurlers in Caurly and with who do they hurl."
Collinstown have lads playing football for Ballycomoyle, multy and CFCW Ballycomoyle then pull lads from LLG, pollard and ringtown Multy have lads playing for LLG and crookedwood A couple of ballynacarrugy lads have played with Castletown geoghan
