Galway v Westmeath is a sellout

The clash of the maroons is a 26,000 sellout, with tickets no longer available to purchase on Ticketmaster. It comes after Galway GAA chairman Paul Bellew told Galway Bay FM yesterday morning that just 2,500 tickets were unsold.

There has been a notable increase in support for Galway under Padraic Joyce, while support for Westmeath has reached unprecedented levels after they were crowned Leinster football champions for the first time in 22 years last month. Their All-Ireland SFC Round 1 fixture against Cavan at TEG Cusack Park last Saturday week sold out within minutes of going on sale, while thousands of fans will make the journey from the midlands to Salthill again this weekend, with many clubs running buses and special trains being laid on from Athlone.

Meanwhile, the 6,000 tickets for Sunday’s eagerly-awaited All-Ireland SFC Round 2A local derby between Louth and Armagh in Inniskeen were snapped up quickly, while the Round 2A meeting of Donegal and Cork in Ballybofey and the Round 2B tie between Kildare and Kerry in Newbridge are also expected to draw capacity crowds.
