Westmeath's John Keane.

Jack Cooney has drafted two-time All Star defender John Keane into his Westmeath football management set-up.

The Rosemount clubman replaces former Dublin ladies football coach Ken Robinson after both he and Gary Dolan stepped down as joint-managers of Garrycastle following last Sunday week’s Westmeath SFC final replay loss to St Loman’s. The former Lake County team-mates had spent four years in charge of the Athlone club, the highlight of which was winning the Flanagan Cup in 2019.

Keane previously co-managed the Westmeath U21s with fellow 2004 Leinster SFC winner Fergal Wilson.

Another Garrycastle man, Cathal Mullin, is continuing in his role as a Westmeath selector with manager Cooney expected to make further additions to his backroom team before the new season begins with a trip to Kildare in the O’Byrne Cup on January 8.
