Dubs V Mayo - 8 Like(s)

Replying To CTGAA10:  "Jesus am I one of the only people outside Dublin who didnt mind seeing them win..I think they played super football up to last year..it all fell completely asunder this evening, the lack of discipline was alarming..I would question management in this..the breaking of the training ban don't think it would have happened under Gavin..the cluxton affair was left simmer,is he gone or not?then there was the case of players walking away ..everyone will say the dubs will be back, today won't do any favors and a lot of players may now step away..also a question how did aos get involved with philly when he wasn't on field of play??do croke park look at this or say ah it's all right match is over.."
What happens on the pitch between players fair enough but you cant have subs/backroom running on to the pitch to get involved in rows knowing they cant be sent off or punished. The GAA need to hit AOS or anyone else with long suspensions.

Meath V Dublin Leinster Final. - 7 Like(s)
The disrespect being shown here to the Dublin players is really sad. Dismissing their achievements as them being somehow 'professionals' is a clear attempt to belittle their great dedication, hard work and skill. They have to balance work, family and everything else just like all other players. So called Gaels are happy to run down this fine Dublin team last night here even while they were laying a wreath to honour those murdered in Croke Park. This Dublin team are great lads and fine role models for young people in Dublin and around the country. The provisional championships have been outed for at least 30 years. No doubt they should be scrapped. It is ONLY down to the provisional councils that they exist, who need them to still be relevant. The GAA do need to look at a new structure and also funding. But running down this Dublin team and the players is not the way to change things.

Dublin' Costello throwing away the kicking tees - 6 Like(s)

Replying To neverright:  "Costelloo is shown, in footage in the Independent today, throwing away Clarke's kicking tees as he hurried to take a quick kick out after Rock's last score. Surely this was in equally poor taste as Keegan's throwing his GPS in the direction of Rock as he took his free. Amazingly neither the ref or or the umpires saw this or the fouling of three Mayo players as they tried to make themselves available for the kick-out. Perhaps more amazing is the fact that Charlie Redmond did not see any of that either or he would surely have being calling for 'examples' to be made of them as well as Keegan"
INCORRECT. It was before Rock had even taken the free. Costello was well within his rights to throw it back in the goal. It is not allowed on the pitch during play

Arlene Foster At The Ulster Final - 6 Like(s)

Replying To Whammo86:  "I feel it all the time in Dublin. People commenting who haven't had to live the DUP just have no clue. You can read all you want about history, I've lived the DUP. Wally has lived the DUP. The DUP attend a GAA match in the same way as Trump salutes Kanye West. To legitimize their hateful rethoritic as having legitimate concerns, and that they are reasonable people. Don't be fooled. They are not. There's a long history of them no being and attendance at a GAA match doesn't matter a dot."
Well you will never know the pain we in the South feel at being constantly bored to tears by every Nationslist and their endless victim boo hooing

All Ireland Club Final, Kilmacud V Glen (Derry) - 6 Like(s)
Ref made an error allowing 45 be taken quickly but Crokes won on the day. This really embarassing stuff from the GAA and also from Glen for trying to win an All Ireland in a boardroom that they lost on the pitch.

Lads the ref was informed at the time as per Malachy O'Rourke. He decided it didnt need to be retaken, wrong in my opinion but that was his call. The match is over. Crokes won. The trophy was handed over. Time to move on.

The maasive 'commitment' put in by GAA players - its no more and often less than other people involved in unprofessional sport in Ireland - boxing, running, cycling, rowing ..etc

The GAA And "Northern Ireland" - 5 Like(s)

Replying To Donegal_abroad:  "I also abhor the portrayal of northern nationalists on this thread by the commentators you've mentioned. To be 'proud' of the 26 counties achieving freedom and saying to the other 6, "we got out our freedom, you should stop with the jealousy and bitterness" is a bit of a joke. 26 county freedom arrived as the last option before Lloyd George's threat of terrible war within days if the Irish delegation didn't accept. The 6 counties were left to the wolves. Most people in the south weren't happy with the division but saw the free state as a stepping stone as Michael Collins did. Ironically De Valera and his 'anti treaty' band of warriors did more to solidify the division of Ireland in the following decades than anyone. No Irish person was proud of the division of Ireland. Nobody saw it was satisfactory but most saw it as being better than the previous situation and hopefully temporary. People in the 26 counties would not in those times have pointed a finger at northern nationalists and laughed or scoffed. As a people this division was forced on us. And what an utter failure it has been. Sectarianism, gerrymandering, discrimination. Yes, things have much improved and that is largely down to equality improvements and nationalists being on a more level footing. Reunification is the only answer to the Tory politics of chaos and ignorance. But if northern nationalists are scarred to some extent after what they've been through, who could blame them? I challenge a few of the more arrogant, spiteful commentators bashing northern nationalists on this thread to live through the legacy of war being brought to your door, discrimination of all kinds and pogroms. If some residual hurts remains, who would blame anyone for that? It's pathetic. Some of the views here are disturbing but fringe views thankfully."
saying to the other 6, "we got out our freedom, you should stop with the jealousy and bitterness" is a bit of a joke.. Who said this quote? I couldn't see on the thread...did you make it up to argue against ?

Project Dublin - a great success - 5 Like(s)
The GAA get a lot of stick but this Dublin project has been very successful. Through massive unjustifable funding and preferential treatment in fixtures the GAA now have forced the situation whereby counties will now need to consider merging to compete. Quite asute work to force the situation rather than propose the mergers themselves. This one big step closer to their ultimate goal of a neatly packaged "Super 12 or 10"teams. Far easier get bigger sponsorship and sell to Sky. Plus no need to deal with pesky small counties looking for a level playing field. Rossies have excellent structures, produce very good players but can now not complete even in a league game. Good job GAA. Role on Sky deciding fixture times, squad numbers and transfer windows

Replying To Ban:  "Jack McCaffrey must have had extra hours in the day if he was living the life of a professional Sportsman over the last number of years! Easy number training and practicing medicine! ..and he was one of the best of them!"
Ha ha yep Michael Fitzsimons is a doctor too. I'm sure they are justing out training in the hospital car park all day no bother :) Cian O'Sullivan in PWC too.. probably just kicking ball against the wall all day... There is a serious disrespect being shown to the Dublin players recently. To dismiss their dedication, skill and drive and amazing achievements because they are 'professionals' is really low for any so-called GAA person. they are amateurs balancing work, families and life just like all other players. Dublin players ambition, focus, (incredible) skills and in particular their example set to young people off the pitch should not be dismissed whatever your views on funding or playing home games in CP are.

Empires Collapse From Within - 4 Like(s)
A football team just lost a match (after extra time) forget this 'empire' guff. As always win or lose players will go back to their clubs and for the lucky few can hope to represent their county again next year. There is a nastiness to this thread which is completely against the ideals of the GAA. Time for some to grow up.

Pairc Ui Chaoimh - 4 Like(s)
None of GAA matches here have sold out or even close in the first year. Very poor attendances for the 1/4 finals. Massive vanity project for Frank Murphy. The club volunteers around Cork out selling club lottery tickets tonight and packing bags tomorrow must be feeling very low now

CORK FOOTBALLERS ARE RIGHT. - 4 Like(s)
I fully support the Cork footballers if they insist on playing game in Pairc Ui Chaoimh and insisting the Cork County Board cancel availability of the ground for the pop concert. If it is not played in Pairc Ui Chaoimh, it should be played in Killarney. Pairc Ui Rinn is not up to even the very basic standards to hold a big championship match. This has been confirmed by Cork GAAs actions in moving their games to Kerry during the Pairc Ui Chaoimh development instead of Pairc Ui Rinn. The Cork footballers grief is with the Cork County Board for scheduling a pop concert in their home ground and also allowing Pairc Ui Rinn to fall into its current poor state. The GAA acted corrected in moving the game.

Can the GAA survive the Rugby onslaught - 4 Like(s)
Been to a lot of big sporting events around the world - rugby , AFL, NFL, baseball, cricket...you can have a drink at your seat no problem. Soccer and GAA are the exception. No harm in it. Better to enjoy a drink at your seat than the norm at GAA - everyone horsing in as much as possible pre game on trains and then pubs around Clones, Croker..etc

the CCCC  " made it clear this was not a deliberate action and that no fault was attributed to Kilmacud Crokes for the situation they found themselves in" I wonder will Joe Brolly show some of that 'integrity' he moralises about and apologise to the Crokes players and management. Somehow I doubt it.

Why Mayo Cant Win An All-Ireland - 4 Like(s)
Great football county. They dont deserve the abuse they get. They overachieved this year with the team they had. Dublin went through a similar awful run losing semi finals and finals in the 80s & 90s until a bad ref call gave them the win in 95. With Mullen & CO'C back next year, Mayo will have an excellent team.
