Joe Canning has to be one of the most scrutinised and pressurised players in the GAA right now. One of the most natural men of all time with a hurl, but a ludicrous amount of responsibility and expectation is heaped on him, and if he doesn't live up to the incredibly high standards other people have set for him, he's declared overrated or compared unfavourably to other players. He's a great hurler who has never played in the kind of luxurious circumtances Shefflin played in. That's not to diminish Shefflin's achievements, but Shefflin never had the kind of pressure on him that Canning has had. The man never seems to be cut any slack.

Reservoir Dubs, Hill16Army and that whole section of the Dublin support making an absolute show of themselves as per usual. Some of the stuff they're posting about this is embarrassing. Screaming it's not fair like a spoilt child any time things don't go your way won't ender you to anyone and does a disservice to the real dub fans who behave impeccably and know how to get on with their fellow GAA brethren without the sneering. Keegan was the best player of the year and anyone who was paying attetion will see that. He is a complete footballer and so versatile. One of the best footballers of this generation, easily. Tasked with man marking the best forwards in the game and does so with verve while also getting forward and scoring. He has a great attitude and takes responsibility and shows leadership for Mayo. I don't believe in this "he's unsporting" either. Keegan is tough and smart and a hard competitor but he's not doing anything defenders up and down the country aren doing, he's just doing it a lot better. We're in the Joe Brolly generation now though where an issue needs to b made of everything and anything and individuals need to be singled out as "worse" than everyone else despite the fact that everyone does it. These people must die of heart failure when they see club matches if they think Keegan is so over the line. He's the kind of footballer people pay to see, the opposition's nightmare. He'd walk into any team in the country. 100% a deserved winner. If certain dub supporters just admitted he's a great player, then they might be able to go and have a lie down. They're going to give themselves a migrane the way they're carrying on.

Not to repeat what has already been said, but it really is an utter embarrassment that this match wasn't broadcast anywhere. Two of the best teams in the competition and a match up that often throws up tight contests being sidelined is ridiculous, especially after the muck we had to watch in the Leinster championship last week.

Dublin are under more pressure. Mayo might not have won it in a long time, but this is the first championship I can remember in a while where they've not been majorly hyped up and have slipped by fairly under the radar. Nobody even really knows what exactly they're capable of or if they've even played to their full potential yet. They're strangely a bit of an unknown quantity this year. All the talk has been of the Dubs and how unstoppable they are, how the Kerry match would be the "real final", how the back to back title will cement their reputation, etc. The vast majority of spectators and commentators are lining up to worship at the altar of the Dubs and many expect them to dispatch Mayo with ease to the point where there's almost a sense that some people think Dublin just need to show up. Incidentally the underdog tag can suit Mayo rather well, especially against Dublin, and I think there are more than a few Dubs who know that too given how hard some of them are trying to transfer the pressure onto Mayo.

How could anyone argue with the Keegan decision? He's one of the most complete footballers in the country and easily the best of those nominated. He played half-back and at times full-back this year and also got forward and kicked some really nice scores. He's very versatile and the best man-marker in the game. He takes on responsibility and shows leadership and he's a man for the big occasion. There are very few jobs you could give the guy that he wouldn't be able to do. He'd walk onto any team in the country. And don't start with the Connolly and Cavanagh were "targeted" crap. Cavanagh has no one to blame but himself and he's no shrinking violet and it's a bit rich for Tyrone supporters to start accusing opposition of jig-acting. As for Connolly, where do you even begin with that lad? The ongoing attempts to make him out to be some innocent party is hilarious. Keegan had him marked out of it all day in the AI replay and that's why he did his level best to have him sent off, going down like he was shot and then waving his imaginary card in Deegan's face. Connolly and Cavanagh know exactly what they're doing and the attempt to paint either of them as a victim is laughable. At least Keegan just gets on with it without whinging all the time despite the very best efforts of some to make him out to be some pantomime villain. One of the very best footballers of recent years and fully deserving of the award.

Galway are a better team than Mayo? Mayo went toe to toe with Dublin over 180 minutes last year in two hugely physical and gruelling encounters, and they probably should have collared Dublin. Galway, who were soundly beaten by Tipperary, would have been eaten alive in those matches. They caught Mayo on the hop last year in Connaught. I don't see them doing it a second time.

Are people for real? Calling O'Shea "a disgrace to the game" or a scumbag? It wasn't a penalty, but O'Shea wasn't refereeing the match. It's up to McQuillan to make the judgement calls and award the penalty, and, for what it's worth, Cillian O'Connor should have been awarded a clear penatly earlier in the match and wasn't. In any case, Fermanagh were not going to win that match. They weren't "robbed" or "cheated out of the championship". The reality was that they were totally and utterly beaten at midfield and could barely get the ball out of their own half for most of the second half. They were going nowhere.

Waterford left it behind them and they know it. Refusing to push up in the last few minutes, inviting Kilkenny onto them, mindlessly pucking the ball into empty spaces just to get it out rather than remaining composed and continuing to press. In the last few minutes they just abandoned everything that had put them in a winning position. It was absolute lunacy and has cost them a place in the final. Kilkenny will feel like they got out of jail today and will make sure it doesn't happen the next day.

Dublin v Mayo - All Ireland Football Final 2016 - 1 Like(s)
Dublin have been finishing games very strongly recently. They seem to be aiming to hit hard towards the end of the second half after the opposition have worn themselves out trying to get ahead. If Mayo want to stop them, I think they need to focus on the last 20 minutes or so of the match and make sure they're in a good position and ready to go hell for leather then. Dublin will empty the bench at this stage too, so Mayo should probably look at bringing on fresh legs too. They obviously won't want to put themselves in a situation where Dublin race into an insurmountable lead early on, but I think they'd want to look at finishing the game stronger than they started it and with their best 15 on the pitch for those final 15-20 minutes rather than having all their best players running out of steam just when Dublin start to call on the bench. Mayo will urgently need to clean up their tackling, which has been very sloppy of late. No excuses for gifting handy frees. But they are as physically imposing a team as Dublin and fitness shouldn't be an issue. One advantage Mayo will have is that they have been a lot less predictable this year than they have been in previous years. Under Horan they played with virutally the same 15 and in the exact same style in almost every game. Under Rochford, they seem much to have adopted a much less one-dimensional approach and seem to be more geared towards versatility. There are a lot of questions marks about how they'll set up and who will start. I don't think it will be as easy this year for Gavin to pin down exactly how Mayo will play. That being said, Mayo's traditional running game could ask serious questions of Dublin as they can look a bit rattled when the opposition drive at them. Pushing up on Cluxton is a must also. Mayo are probably the only team over the last few years to really have Dublin on edge every time they meet. There is no reason why they couldn't put it up to them again.
