Paul Donaghy scored 0-10 on his Tyrone debut but the Red Hands were left to rue Michael O'Neill's 40th minute dismissal as man-of-the-match Michael Murphy and Paddy McBrearty led Donegal to a 0-18 to 0-16 victory at Healy Park.
A star performer for Dungannon Clarkes in their capturing of the Tyrone SFC title last year, 22-year-old Donaghy was one of a number of newcomers called into the county squad by managers Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher and proved his worth.
Murphy (0-6) and McBrearty (0-4) combined for 0-10 while ex-AFL star Conor McKenna had a relatively quiet afternoon by his standards.
