McDonnell replaces departed Glavin as Kildare selector

Emmet McDonnell as Tyrrellspass manager.

Emmet McDonnell will join the Kildare senior football backroom team as selector, filling the vacancy created by Ross Glavin's departure.

Kildare GAA announced this evening that former Moorefield boss Glavin has departed his role in Jack O'Connor's set-up with immediate effect to concentrate on family commitments.

The Lilywhites have moved swiftly for a replacement with Kinnegad man McDonnell set to be put forward for ratification at next month's county board meeting.

McDonnell guided Tyrrellspass to the Westmeath SFC final last year, and previously managed the Offaly senior footballers.

He will be familiar to many of the Kildare players, having managed St Mary's Edenderry to an historic Hogan Cup success in 2012, a side which included future Lilywhite stars Paul Cribbin and Daniel Flynn.
