Cruciate curse strikes Harte

Newly-appointed Westmeath football boss Mark McHugh will have to plan without Nigel Harte for most of next season after he ruptured his ACL.

Harte is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering the season-ending injury during Tyrrellspass’ recent Westmeath SFC Round 3 win over Athlone. He had scored 1-1 before retiring in the first half and was only returning to full fitness after breaking a rib and a finger against Limerick in the Tailteann Cup this summer.

A versatile performer, Harte also missed all bar the last round of this year’s Allianz Football League against Roscommon through injury.

Meanwhile, fellow Tyrrellspass clubman and Westmeath hurler Peter Clarke is in a race against time to be fit for Castletown-Geoghegan’s Westmeath SHC final against either Raharney or Lough Lene Gaels in just over four weeks’ time due to injury. The dual star will definitely miss Tyrrellspass’ do-or-die Westmeath SFC Round 5 encounter with St Loman’s this weekend.
