Inter-county squads permitted to resume collective training from today

Inter-county squads are allowed to return to collective training as of today

Inter-county teams throughout the country are permitted to return to collective training from today.

It comes after a four-month lay-off for inter-county squads which saw government restrictions in the battle against the spread of Covid-19 preventing them from group training.

Easing of the current Level 5 restrictions will see children’s non-contact training for outdoor sports resume in pods of less than 15 from next Monday, April 26th.

Last week, club training for adult and youth GAA players in Northern Ireland was permitted to resume.

The return to collective training gives inter-county teams a bit over a fortnight before the 2021 Allianz Leagues get underway, with the hurling set to begin on May 8th and the football competition commencing on May 15th.

Once those competitions are completed, the provincial championships and the All-Ireland series will throw-in towards the end of June with the draws for the Munster senior football and hurling championships having been confirmed earlier this morning.

The draw for the Connacht SFC is set to take place this evening on the Six One News, with the Ulster SFC pairings to be revealed tomorrow evening.

The Leinster senior football and hurling championship draws will be held on RTE’s Morning Ireland programme tomorrow.
