Kiltimagh (Mayo) are Connacht club junior football champions after a double score win over Aghavas (Letrim) in Carrick-on-Shannon this afternoon.

It finished 0-16 to 0-8 at Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada, where the visitors had bossed the first-half before going on to collect their provincial crown and book a place in the All-Ireland semi-finals.

A Paul Kelly two-pointer and points from Jamie McNicholas (‘45’), Jordan Henry (free) and Thomas Keegan (free) saw Kiltimagh out to a 0-6 to 0-0 lead after the opening quarter of an hour.

Adrian Shortt struck over a two-point free for Aghavas and the same player would get their third point from a free before half-time, but it was the Mayo champions that were in command as they went in with a 0-11 to 0-3 lead.

Darren Shortt sent over a free early in the restart for the Leitrim champions ahead of Keegan registering two placed balls at the other end.

Eanna McNamara and Darren Shortt got points back for Eanna McNamara, but the damage was already done as Fionnan Burke’s late score wrapped up the eight-point triumph for Kiltimagh.
