The last 14 remaining in football championship - 11 Like(s)
the last 14 remaining in football championship are made up of 8 Div1, 4 Div 2, 1 Div 3 and 1 Div 4.
The luck of the draw aside I think this says that the B championship is a non starter
we have Monaghan at home. Our biggest game in decades, the ground will be packed and we will at least give the Carney men a good shaking. Nothing can replace this, and every lower ranked team can achieve this type of summer. Our run has had a huge impact in Charlie and although the upper echelons of the GAA family may not get it, this is big for us and raises hope for the future. So no B championship

Hats Off To Antrim County Board And Footballers - 10 Like(s)
Great and true sportslike gesture and action by Antrim to offer an neutral venue to Waterford this weekend Parricularly as the guaranteed 2 points would have put them in a strong position for promotion. Well done and i personally would like to see them bounce back from the hammering last week Well done

Shamrock Rovers supporters anti Queen Elizabeth chant. Rovers should be hammered financially for this behaviour of a section of crowd. Mindless nonsense. The ground is surrounded by Respect signs. No heed taken. I have no time for ignorance where ever it comes from and that behaiour is just in the gutter. I am not a royalist by any stretch but when a women of 96 dies.... Does it deserve hate like this Absolutely not

Is Leinster Football Dead And Buried? - 6 Like(s)

Replying To Kildare30:  "I don't think it totally dead and buried. For me its just a very bad phase for all counties in Leinster bar of course Dublin. They have an ultra consistent and talented squad, proven winning credentials and nobody in Leinster can get near them. Meath and Kildare have slipped back. Due to the slippage the likes of Carlow, Longford and Laois are now beating the ' beaten dockets'. Dublin will hockey either of Laois or Carlow in the final. Biggest disappointment from ourselves is we are not even prepared to man up to opposition now. This infuriates supports no end. There is no hard edge to Kildare or Meath. Regardless of what squabbles that may be going on within the Kildare camp players need to find a way to park it and be prepared to put the shoulder to the wheel when they cross the white line. Otherwise no point even coming out of dressing room and dirtying their little white socks!!"
Such a patronizing post - Give Carlow and Longford their due - they are good football teams with a decent attitude and things are good in both counties . I think Kildare in particular have an undeserved high reputation. Kildare have and always had a soft underbelly - cruelly exposed most recently by a very well drilled and physical Carlow team who just pushed them aside. 7/1 outsiders !!!!! Laois or Carlow will probably lose to the Dubs by around the same margin Kildare did last year. Dublin are brilliant - this is not an excuse to moan. I really hope Dublin get 5 in a row, they deserve the accolades. Leinster does not need a good Meath or Kidare or Offaly for that matter. What it needs is for all Counties to step up and stop whinging - Great teams don't last forever

Venue issue - 4 Like(s)
if Carlow beat Wexford on the 21st May they will be awarded with a day out against Dublin in Portlaoise. We all know that Dublin will be victorious no matter where the game is played. So why not give Carlow a home game like Wexford will if they beat us. Total nonsense . Give Dublin 6000 tickets and play in Carlow. I have heard it is to accommodate Dublin season ticket holders? By the way Dr Cullen Park was Bobby Doyle's favourite playing surface and ground. Let's have fair play for once.

No B Championship - 3 Like(s)
whatever the result of the game in Portlaoise tonight, this is the reason we should never have a xB Championship. The format we have is excellent , 4 divisions , the league is now a lot more than just trying out new players. it is particularly important for team lower down to aspire upwards. As a proud Carlow person I am really looking forward to to night, not bothered what we lose by. I know Carlow football is improving and we have good systems in place and we work as hard as anyone. As John Murphy said in interview , its days like this inspire the next generations. So let's leave the system alone and get on with improving. Bottom line is we beat Wexford and the prize is a night out against probably the best team of the last 30 years. Love it. While I am on I also feel the Hurling structure should also be a simple 4 divisions and this will generate more improvement all round.

Replying To dead_as_dodos:  "I have to say I admire your optimism Blackie . I don't share it unfortunately but fair play to you and I genuinely hope you're right and i'm wrong."
It costs nothing to be positive. We have a manager who knows his football, and is Carlow through and through good coaching team and players well able to raise the game. Do they have to be world beaters before we back their endeavours Take a lesson from over here in UK. I follow a team in the 6th tier of English football. There will be 6000 going to see them tomorrow and they are surrounded by clubs like City, United, Everton, Liverpool etc. Carlow Followers and would be Followers need to get over themselves and be part of a drive forward not sitting back for evidence of greatness. See you there Dodo. Bring a flag and a smile

Offaly's Tactics Selection In Joe Mc - 3 Like(s)
I see where Laois, management not happy with selection approach of Offaly against Carlow. The real answer is Laois should have looked after their own destiny and they did'nt Carlow lost out last year by Antrim fielding a weaker team against Kerry. We lost out despite beating Offaly by 5 points in last game I thought Antrim and Offaly are free to select who they want, try out panel and rest others. All that said I think it will be a close final. I would not dismiss a Carlow win.

Replying To daytona11:  "A second tier championship would help them develop further no doubt. And give players a chance to win something."
Dont Agree. The league has improved its status over the years and has proved a wonderful sprong board for the likes of former Div 4 Teans like Clare and Tipp. Hope we can follow suit. Usr the league to omprove, playing at higher level. leave the championship alone. We want our days out against the Dubs and the like. We have as much chance of winning an all ireland as have 28 other counties. So lrave things alone. looking forward to possibly giving Kildare a good rattle if we can get that far this summer

All Ireland Winners Speeches - 2 Like(s)
The acceptance speeches of all ireland winners are becoming more boring and bland as years go on. Not helped by having to thank individually the back room team with it's cast of 1000s. Also not helped by no crowd surging in front of Hogan stand. It got me thinking of my favourite acceptance speech. Many would go for John Connolly's. However my favoutire is Lester Ryan's brilliant one all in Irish in 2014. Amazing he practiced that on video when he was 10 Whats your favourite and why?

2024 NFL Division 4 Discussion thread - 2 Like(s)
We had a separate thread in past years on Div 4. And it was always interesting and good to get other counties views I will kick off by saying that Laois and Leitrim would be my favourites to reach DIv 3 However apart from Waterford and London it is very tight. Even saying that both Waterford and London are well able to turn the tables From a Carlow perspective we have a decent manager who had stayed with this team and built a strong team ethic with a few lads from our good days in 2017 -19 plus lots of young lads. Our forward line is strongest area for us. Midfield probably weakest I think we are capable of promotion but it will be a difficult road Still think Laois and Leitrim will get promoted But you never know. We have had a good start against Tipp who were second favourites with bookies and we would fancy a win ourselves against Waterford next week end But the following 2 games are against Laois and Letrim so that will tell a lot Anyway I welcome you comments and views on your own county and the others Ceatharlach abu

The Championship 2018 - 2 Like(s)
I have not being on here for a while - just enjoying the reality. you can say what you like about Kildare- we were 7/1 to win - huge odds in a two horse race - I thought the team were superb and I loved Stephen Poacher at his manic best I forecast back in March that we would beat Louth and give Kildare a bit of a rattle but lose to them, followed by a run in the back door- well we are in bonus territtiory now Would be great to make Leinster Final and have a crack at super 8s qualification whilst I think we can beat Leix , we have to not just overcome them but overcome Croke Park - Its a graveyard historically for our footballers - going back to the fifities and beyond - When was the last time our footballers won there. I actually hate watching games there when there is less than 40K in attendance Anyway we can beat Leix and history does not always dictate the future

Replying To Wally:  "You are getting a bit carried away now. You have just been promoted from division 4 and now you say you have as good a chance of winning an all ireland as 28 other counties. Lets say the top 4 counties in Ireland at the moment are Dublin, Mayo, Kerry and Tyrone (based on last years championship). Right now you think Carlow have as good a chance of winning the all ireland as say Donegal, Galway, Monaghan, etc. Of course you dont. I would say you have the same chance as maybe 16 other counties and that chance is currently sitting at zero. Would it not be better spending your summer playing football in a competition which you might actually have at least a 1% chance of winning."
No we want to be in the All ireland . Monaghan beat us by 5 points and with a late surge. We are no world beaters but every county deserves a go at the big boys

Footballers 2019 Season - 1 Like(s)

Replying To Blackbogger:  "A very interesting observation Fullbach I agree that now is the time to show all the support we can for current management team. They have given Carlow a winning edge this past couple of years. It's true the wheels fell off this year but I think there was a chunk of bad luck thrown at us in 2019 that you would have to think was exceptional. Looking forward to the current management team staying on and building again."
I really hope they do stay on or at least hand the legacy on to similar minded individuals. I saw my first Carlow senior game on Athy in 1963. The last two years have being by a long way the best. The win in Tullamore was magical . I will never ever forget the feeling when Conor Lawlor hit the final nail in the kildare coffin . I was there in Tullamore when we won the B champion ship many years ago but it does not compare. My own feeling is Steven Poacher will go and yes he can be a controversial figure but he is the catalyst. Turlough is the enabler. My hope would be that Turlough stays and brings in a coach capable of carrying on where Poacher left off.
