The PSNI has launched an investigation into a pitch invasion that happened after Sunday’s Tyrone SFC final at Healy Park in Omagh.

Celebrating fans rushed on to the playing field after Dungannon defeated Trillick in a dramatic penalty shoot-out to capture their first senior championship title in 64 years.

Yesterday Northern Ireland’s First Minister Arlene Foster tweeted her deep concern over the incident and called on Ulster Council to address it.

Ulster Council has since released a statement saying that the pitch invasion breached public health guidelines and warned that if the scenes were repeated “we will risk going back to a position where all games will be played behind closed doors.”

The PSNI is now examining any potential breaches of public health measures that might have taken place at Healy Park.

Chief Superintendent Ryan Henderson said: "We are aware of an incident at a GAA match in Omagh yesterday and will be reviewing all available evidence to determine any potential breach of the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) Regulations NI 2020 or breach of any other statute identified in respect of any individual."
