New York’s hurlers are bound for another Croke Park final after defeating Mayo by 4-18 to 1-18 at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park this afternoon.

The Lory Meagher Cup champions netted three first-half goals on the way to their victory in Longford which will see them now facing Tyrone in the Nickey Rackard Cup decider at headquarters this Saturday (throw-in 1pm).

An airtight opening 20 minutes saw the sides all square on 0-6 apiece before AJ Wills hammered in the Exiles’ first goal and he’d add two more majors on the next five minutes to rock the Westerners.

Shane Boland, Ryan Duffy and Cormac Phillips pulled back points for Mayo that left the scoreboard reading 3-9 to 0-11 come the break, with Richie Harnett’s men bagging their fourth goal 10 minutes into the second-half.

Thomas Douglas coolly dispatched his penalty, which would be cancelled out by Phillips from the other penalty spot some 10 minutes later, but Mayo needed more goals that simply would come their way as late points by Sean O’Leary-Hayes and Niall Coen helped to round off New York’s nine-point which now has them Croker bound.
