Mayo boss Kevin McStay said his side were delighted to share the spoils in last night’s Division 1 derby against Galway in Castlebar.

Ryan O’Donoghue superb point with the last kick of the game ensured the hosts a point on opening weekend, as it finished 1-11 to 2-8, in what was a tough against their neighbours.

Speaking to RTE Sport afterwards, McStay said he was taking positives from the result.

"We’re delighted with the point, it sets us up nicely for next week. Great battling qualities from our boys we feel,” he stated.

"It’s a good result, a point on the board."

He added: “We’ve lots of good footballers in this group and we’ll get better as the weeks go by. There’s lots to pick up on obviously, but I’m going to take the positives from it.

"We’re playing All-Ireland finalists and we gave a great account of ourselves."
