All-Ireland championships get green light in Level 5

The All-Ireland inter-county championships will be able to go ahead under new lockdown restrictions put in place to control the spread of Covid-19.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ireland has surpassed 50,000, after the Department of Health reported 1,031 new infections on Monday afternoon. The Government has announced plans to move the country to Level 5 from midnight on Wednesday for six weeks instead of an 'enhanced' Level 4, which had previously been reported.
The new 'Living with Covid' plan unveiled by the Government last month states 'no matches or events to take place' in Level 5. But an exception will be made for 'elite sports' such as inter-county matches to continue.
The GAA has today released fixtures for the coming weekend which sees the final round of fixtures in the Allianz Football Leagues and the opening matches of the All-Ireland hurling championships scheduled. Meanwhile, the All-Ireland U20FC final between Dublin and Galway is set to take place in Portloaise on Saturday afternoon.
