Blessington club notes

Lotto - Blessington GAA lotto not won on Tues 3 Jul. Well done to Gerry Phibbs and Conor Wilson on sharing €600 Match 3 (previous Match 3 not won so rolled over). Jackpot now stands at €4200. Draw in Murphy's on 17 Jul. Thank you for continued support.


First Aid/Defib training -  Due to lack of numbers this training course will be held at a later date.

 

Championship Launch - Wicklow GAA launched their Football and Hurling Championships for 2018 on Mon 2 July in Joule Park Aughrim. It was great to see a big show of teams in their club strips and club personnel attend on the night. 
 

Div 1 - Hard luck to our Senior team who lost out to St Pat's in Aughrim in the Dunne Cup Football League Final on Wed 4 Jul.  Final score Blesso 2-08 St Pat's 1-13. Well done to Anto McLoughlin who scored 2-06. Next up for the seniors is the 1st round of the championship in Aughrim on Sat 14 Jul v Annacurra. Time TBC.

 

Juniors - The Jun B team had a comfortable win on Thurs 5 Jul in Kiltegan. Team: James Jackson, Patrick Nolan, Sean Mc Garr, Cormac Brogan, Paddy Reilly, Bradley Foster, Ciaran Mescall, Eoin Higgins, Conal O' Gallchobhoir, Stephen Carrol,l Jordan McGarr, Ruairi Finan, Eddie Boylan, Ciaran McGovern, Adam Murphy.  

 

Div 4 - Original fixture changed from Mon 9 Jul changed to Fri 13 Jul in Blessington v Valleymount in the semi final 7.30pm.

Wicklow Minors - On Tues 3 Jul this great bunch of lads beat Meath 1-10 to 1-08 to reach the semi final of the Leinster championship v Kildare. Meath has subsequently booked their place in the final and it was all up to Wicklow and Kildare on Sun 8 Jul to decide who was to meet them. The Wicklow Minors had a fantastic match v Kildare in St Conleth's Park, Newbridge on Sun 8 Jul. At full time all was level and extra time was played. In weather which is unprecedented the match was a see saw and no one could have predicted the outcome it was too close to call. Eventually, it was a draw Kildare 3-13 Wicklow 3-13. Match will be played in Aughrim on Sat 14 Jul Time TBC. Ladies

Wicklow Ladies - Good luck to the ladies when they travel to Clones v Monaghan on Sat 14 August.  Best wishes to all but especially to our own club player Kim Connors.

 

Blessington GAA Ladies 25 Anniversary Celebrations - Lock the date in for our LADIES 25 YEAR CELEBRATIONS.   All teams (U8 right up to G4M) will be involved on the day - schedule of events will be sent out nearer the time. We look forward to a wonderful Club Day. Blessington Pitch 2pm - 6pm. Avon Ri 8pm till late. 25 years, 450 players, 7300 training sessions,37800 dirty jerseys, 1 Club.

 

Senior Ladies - Hard luck to our ladies who lost their opening football championship match on Sat 7 Jul at home against Baltinglass. Final score Blesso 1-09 Balto 0-20. Next up the ladies are away in the Dublin League v Kilmacud Crokes on Mon 9 Jul at 7.30pm. On Fri 13 Jul the ladies v Eadestown at home 7pm.

 

U16 girls - U16 girls Blue away v Baltinglass on Thurs 12 Jul at 7.15pm.

 

U8/U10 girls - Blitz in Baltinglass on Sat 14 Jul at 10.30am.

 

Juvenile boys

U15's - Training starts again in Monday at 6.45pm. Wed 11 Jul at home v St Nicks 7.30pm. Sat 14 Jul Cross Border League final in Abbotstown v Fethard St Mouges of Wexford Time TBC.  

U11's - On Fri 6 Jul our red squad played St Kevin's at home in a rescheduled fixture. The team played really well and with great team play resulting in great scores and a great win. Thanks again to U9 players Dylan, Oisin, James, Fiachra and Cormac for playing with squad tonight and yet again displaying great skills.

On Wed 11 Jul U11 Blue v Rathnew Red at home 7.15pm. U11 White at home v Donard/The Glen on Wed 11 Jul at 7.15pm. U11 Red away v Fergal Og on Wed 11 Jul at 7.15pm.

 

Hurling

Wicklow U21 - Hard luck to the Wicklow U21 hurlers who lost to Kildare 1-14 to 1-12 in the All Ireland Championship game on Sat 7 Jul in Pearse Park. Our club member David Williamson was on the panel.

U8's - Well done to the Blessington young hurlers who played at Hollywood field day on Sun 8 Jul. We get to keep the cup for another year but what's more important is we have a nice group of young hurlers from Blesso and Hollywood coming through. In a few years all these kids will be playing together for Western Gaels. Man of the match has to be Sean Ennis. Well done everyone. There was some brilliant hurling today.

Kelloggs Cul Camps - On behalf of the club we hope all the boys and girls the very best at the Cul Camp this coming week. Anyone that hasn't been successful in securing a place can still log on and register their kids for the Cul Camp in Blessington week beginning 23 Jul. Positions vacant - "Kids Inc. are recruiting for Afterschool Practitioners in multiple locations including for this area. The position is part time afternoons. The ideal candidate loves working with children. Holding a sports coaching or childcare qualification is desirable but not essential. Clothing Collection ongoing - collecting good quality second hand clothing suitable for re-use. Please fill as many black bin bags as you can - the more we collect, the more our club receives.
