Well done to the hurlers anyone who sneers at their own county in any sport not a supporter of any substance.

People are looking for a reaction when they make such silly comments - and it seems people are giving them what they want. Ignore and it goes away!

Well done Westmeath Hurlers. Great win

Well done Westmeath hurlers. Great win and boost for the county with the constant dissapointment of the footballers.

Footballers looking good to get relegated for the 3rd year in a row. Laughable

Well done to westmeath hurlers on a great win and sets up a great chance to move up a division. The playoff is ridiculous, westmeath should be promoted already but as Michael Ryan said the pressure is off and they can go and have a right cut at the game. I have seen enough of the comments slating one code over the other and I won't be giving them any more oxygen than they deserve. Iarmhi (all of it, football, hurling, camogie, ladies football and handball from all age groups) abu

Dan Carter in the Indo to-day ......
"No one in New Zealand likes a big head. In the All Black environment there's really no room for it, and if there's ever any signs of that happening you'll soon be brought back down to earth.
"From the very start you learn humility. There are these little structures in place, like the fact that we always leave the changing room as clean as it was when you walked in. So often you'll see the likes of Richie McCaw and the coach Steven Hansen sweeping the shed.

Cleaning the dressing room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Routine for our prima donnas I presume.

Its funny how a team or individual not scaling significant heights is always a target for such crap.

To the biased Westmeath football fans who have sneered and made snide remarks about the hurlers on this forum, enjoy supporting the glorious county football team in Division 4 next season! There seems to be only one Mens Senior county team making encouraging progress in this county and showing real pride and humbleness when wearing the Maroon and White jersey, keep the progress and hard work going hurlers! Your the only ones that true Westmeath fans can feel happy to support!

I played club hurling and football in this county and this isn't meant as a dig but it always amazes me that with such a core of die hard hurling people in this county , how has Westmeath never made a dent in Championship Hurling in over 100 years ....now the footballers are back in the basement after over 20 years and it's nothing to gloat about. Our combined efforts in hurling and football in the history of the GAA is pityful.

The hurlers are as big a disgrace as the footballers they post themselves all over social media after beating third tier teams in carlow and London and then when they come up against a Laois side missing key players and not winning a league game all year and they get whipped. I am disillusioned with this county as a whole. Pathetic performance by them

Joggers the man only for him , the defence is him but we played nothing up to today , laois higher leval , faster , and were unlucky to be in that position they almost beat Clare, anyone that follows the club championship knows that Maloney is good shot stopper but high balls or a forward coming in with ball in the air is dodgy, couple players in the forwards playing with broken bones and a back playing as a forward in a goal scoring position driving it wide very dissapointing, I said it here before that the division is our leval.
O Connor park is a big pitch and laois were more than happy to play 2 forwards inside with a sweeper and allow us take short puck outs , we should have played long and pushed an extra man on the sweeper,it might have made Chedder go 15 v 15. Winning a division and not getting up is a joke and listening to laois crowd banter "do Westmeath get a cup for this game " is hard to take , where do we go from here Offaly in a couple of weeks then Kerry away and Carlow away in round robin is looking bleak after that today

Joke having to even play this game. Westmeath should have been all positive going into the Leinster Championship but now they've to pick themselves up again for a few big games.
Next winter should have been the time to prepare for the higher division.
Imagine the football counties having to play a promotion game to get a chance to go up a division!!

While feeling sorry for the hurlers , trying to look at some positives i am wondering if 1b might have been a step too far, with wexford cork and limerick all able to inflict massive scores, being back in 2a they might develop a chip on there shoulder and attitude that might gel team together and to have any hope of surival in 1b we would want to beginn to put team in 2a to the sword early and be routless in big wins
