Ladies lose to Mullingar Shamrocks

Our ladies footballers are facing a relegation playoff after losing their second game in the intermediate championship to Mullingar Shamrocks at Springfield last Saturday evening.

After succumbing to Killucan in the opening round, this was a must-win game for Martin Maher’s side, but they played second fiddle throughout to the hosts who ran out 4-16 to 0-7 winners. Most of the damage was done in the first half when Mullingar opened up an unassailable lead.

Despite hitting the woodwork three times and having a penalty appeal turned down, we could have no complaints and need to regroup quickly for a playoff against as of yet unknown opponents. It would be a major boost to have Mairead McCormack and Gillian Heeney back from injury for that game.

Team: Sabrina Jackson, Jennifer Barrett, Triona Durkan (captain), Emer Heeney; Aideen Pettit, Tara Dennehy, Leah Fitzgerald; Kim Cobbe, Ayesha Roche, Aine Pettit, Jill Draper, Niamh Durkan; Anna Wrafter, Aleshia Fitzgerald, Aoibhinn Jackson. Subs (all used): Jemma Seery, Laura Murphy, Orla Brennan, Ellie Fitzpatrick, Fiona Dixon, Becky Scally, Katie Coffey, Emily O’Brien and Aleesha Rock-Fuller.

Underage

Despite acquitting themselves very well, our U17 and U13 boys’ teams suffered championship defeats to Inny Shamrocks and Millmore Gaels respectively last week. Both teams, along with the U15s, will be back in championship action next week.

Upcoming underage (boys) fixtures:

Monday, August 17 at 7pm in Killucan - U15FC, Killucan v Kilbeggan Shamrocks / Milltownpass

Wednesday, August 19 at 7pm in Kilbeggan - U17FC, Kilbeggan Shamrocks v St Joseph's

Thursday, August 20 at 7pm in Kilbeggan - U13FC, Kilbeggan Shamrocks v Coralstown-Kinnegad.
