Crookedwood club notes

February 17, 2020

Leinster Hurling League

We play our first game under new manager, Barry Kennedy, next Saturday, against Belmont in Offaly, at 3:30.  Home games against Rathmolyon and Drumcullen will follow. All support would be appreciated for these games.

General Meeting

There was a good turnout for our general meeting on Saturday last, where our future development plans were outlined. The meeting was very positive, and it was unanimously agreed to forge ahead with our ambitious plans, which will change the club for the good. We would like to thank all who attended the meeting.

Westmeath hurling

Our hurlers were in action against Cork at the weekend, and despite a battling performance were beaten by four points. Shane McGovern made an appearance off the bench in the second half. This was a good improvement from the squad as they adapt to life in division 1.

National Club Draw

Closing date for ticket sales is not far away for the national club draw, for which we are selling tickets. This is an excellent, zero risk opportunity for our club to generate much needed funds as all proceeds go directly to our club. There are excellent prizes on offer and tickets cost just €10, please contact any player or committee member to get involved.

Crookedwood Lights Up

Do you want to get moving and active this New Year, but you have nowhere to go?

Do you find it hard to find a safe and well-lit area to go a walk during the dark winter months? Well, your local Crookedwood GAA Club has the answer! We’re coming on board with Operation Transformation and the GAA for Ireland Lights Up. Every Monday and Thursday from the 16th January to 20th February 2020 our club will be open and lit up for you, your family and friends to come and walk from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. The lights will be on earlier in the evening for anyone that wants an early start. We want everyone to come and join us for Ireland Lights Up 2020!  All are welcome to this event.

All members are reminded that membership is now due for the coming year. For insurance purposes, all players must be paid up and registered before any training or games take place. Anyone who uses the walking track must pay social membership, also due to insurance regulations. Membership may be paid to any committee member or team mentor.

We will be holding our annual Michael Murtagh Memorial table quiz on Saturday, 7th March, in Murrays, The Wood. We would like to invite all to come along for a good night out.
