Cumann na mBunscoil Boys Football

Ballinagore 8-03  Cornamaddy 4-01

Our boys school team made it four wins from four, as a result topped their group and qualified for the semifinal following this well deserved victory over the Athlone side on Friday afternoon. We started this game strongly with two early goals and dominated the first half leading 5-02 to 1-00 at half time. The second half was a closer affair with the opposition coming into the game more and they also denied us some more scoring opportunities through good defending. To their credit they bagged a few late goals to close the gap but it’s our boys who march onto the semi-final. This game will not be played until next Spring so we have a few months to prepare through training and challenge games. Well done to they boys on another good performance. Team: Denis Rigney, Luke Sinnamon, Aaron Jackson, Conor Robinson, Paddy Maloney, Hugh Carey , Luke Robinson, Conor Ward , Gavin Ennis , Rhys Gavigan. Subs: Peter Daly , Karl Murtagh , Tadgh Seery , Josh Hynes

Cumann na mBunscoil Girls Football

Our girls team had a great win last Thursday against Streamstown. Credit to both teams on putting on a great display of football. This win leaves us with three wins so fingers crossed we get to knock out stages in the new year. Team: Shannon Corroon, Marie Claire Maxwell, Anne Reynolds, Amy Seery, Katie Hogg, Aoife O'Brien, Rose Macken. Subs used. Emma King, Sinead O'Brien, Therese Daly, Ellie Hogg, Arianne Daly, Georgia Finnane, Louise Maxwell, Grace Maloney. Great credit is due to Peter Robinson who is putting in great effort training and managing the boys team with Mr Geoghegan and also to Ian Seery who is training the girls team also with Mr Geoghegan. Both teams have had hugely successful campaigns to date so let’s hope it continues in the New Year.

Scór na nÓg County Final

We had no less than five acts taking part in Sundays county final in The Downs. Each and every one of our young competitors performed excellently on the stage and we were all very proud of them from our safe confines as spectators! On a day where the standard of competition was extremely high across all disciplines, it was a real case of fine margins when it came to the judges decisions. The first to find out their fate were the question time team who competed on stage with The Downs and Bunbrosna. After the scores were counted, we found out that we had lost to Bunbrosna by just one question. When the results came in for the stage performances, we all waited anxiously. Unfortunatley, we were not successful in the recitation, Léiriú Novelty Act or Instrumental Music but we were delighted to be announced winners in the solo singing competition. There can't have been much in it in any of the acts and while we were disappointed not to have collected further wins, we send our congratulations to the winners on Sunday. We want to thank Shane Heraty, Mark and Aisling King, Joanne O'Brien, Breda Daly and Oliver Reynolds for all their hard work preparing the kids for the stage. We also want to thank The Downs club for their hospitality on Sunday, especially with the lovely spread of food and refreshments served to us on the day. We send our best wishes to Jemma Seery and the other Westmeath representatives as they take part in the Leinster semi-final in Oldcastle, Co. Meath on Sunday 8th December. The following represented our club with pride on Sunday in The Downs: Solo Singing: Jemma Seery; Recitation: Shane King, Léiriú Novelty Act: Shane King, Emma King, Jemma Seery, Emer Claffey, Peter Daly, Arianne Daly, Caoimhe Geraghty and Aoife O'Brien; Instrumental Music: Ellen Daly, Anne Reynolds, Emma O'Brien, Rose Macken and Seán Macken; Question Time Team: Peter Reynolds, Philip Reynolds, Cathal Kelly and Niall Claffey.
