Southern Gaels club notes

October 21, 2019

Best Wishes to Athlone GAA U14s

Best of luck to Athlone GAA U14 footballers who take on St. Lomans next Saturday in the Division 1 Championship Final at 12.30pm in Cusack Park. Many of our U14 hurlers feature on this team and are central figures in the success of this team this year. Already they have claimed the U14 League Final Cup and to get the double with a win on Saturday would be simply amazing but well within their ability.

Academy and U8s Midterm and Beyond

As next week is midterm, a well-earned break will be taken and so the Academy and U8s anticipate starting their indoor training block on Tuesday 5th November in the Marist Hall. Thank you all, for your great support all year.

U10 and U12 End of Season Celebration

To wrap up the year for the U12’s and U10’s the club is organising a fun night at the clubhouse on Friday 6.30pm October 25th. The night will kick off with a short lighthearted quiz with tables of four, in the bar, teams made up of 2 from both groups picked from a hat. Then the U10’s will get their Supermacs in the Hall while U12’s have theirs in the bar and mentors will present personalised hurling awards (one for every player attending) and a small chat. Then everyone will go into the hall where the quiz prizes, spot prizes, a raffle for a Seamus Callinan and Ronan Maher signed hurley and a few vouchers will take place. Parents can avail of tea and coffee in the hall throughout. Keep the date free and see you all then.

Azzurri Club Gear Night This Friday

Next Friday 25th October Azzurri will be on-site in Páirc Chiaráin with a Club Gear Shop from 6pm-8pm in parallel with the U10/U12 festivities. This is a great opportunity to get Christmas presents sorted in one go. Who wouldn’t want some Southern Gaels gear to wear during the festive season! Azzurri will have clearance stock available also so there are bargains to be had on the night.

SG Hurlers Represent Marist

Well done to our many Southern Gaels hurlers who represented the Marist College in a last weeks hurling blitz. They recorded one solid victory and one narrow defeat against Moate and Kilbeggan respectively. The first match saw them run out 5-13 to 1- 7 winners and the second saw them lose 1-6 to 1-4 in a hotly contested battle. The Marist have a fine panel of hurlers drawn from the many hurling bastions in the greater Athlone area and are going from strength to strength. This support for the game is greatly appreciated by all the clubs in the area.

 SG AGM November 15th

Note for your diary, the Southern Gaels AGM will take place on November 15th this year. The appointment of officers, reports on the year’s progress and plans for the future will all be on the agenda on this busy night. All members are welcome to attend and no doubt there will be a social aspect to the gathering after the business of the day is completed.
