U16 Shield Final

Lilluput Gaels 1-04  Shandonagh 1-03

Our U16 footballers played Shandonagh in the Division 1 Shield Final in The Downs on Saturday morning. This game, although low scoring, was hotly contested and highly exciting throughout with both sides evenly matched. With both sides creating chances, it was scarcely believable that the half time score was 0-00 to 0-01 in favour of our opponents but hard working defences along good goalkeeping made scores difficult to come by. The second half was equally competitive. A late goal by Warwic Kirby drew the sides level near the end but there was still time for Shandonagh to have one last attack and they scored a winning point to leave our lads gutted in the end. Congratulations to Shandonagh while commiserations to our lads who worked tremendously hard on Saturday and put in a huge performance. They, along with their management team of Conor Elliffe, Sean Claffey, Charlie Kelly and Ollie Kirby, can be very proud of their year and their achievements in 2019 and we’re sure they’ll be back as strong as ever in 2020. Team: Sean Jackson, Odhran Gavigan, Shane Doran, Cathal Kelly, David Maloney, Tiernan McMahon, Ryan Boyne, Peter Reynolds, Peter Dalton, Cathal Elliffe, Warwic Kirby, Cody Finnane, Shane Corcoran, Luke Seery, Peter Murphy. Subs: Sean Kincaid, Niall Claffey, Oisin Kiernan, Jack Gannon.

Minor Football Shield Semi Final

Lilliput Gaels 0-20 Garrycastle 0-08

Our minor footballers welcomed Garrycastle to Ballinagore on Wednesday evening to play them in the minor shield semi-final. Our minors have had a very positive season this year with five wins from seven in the league and indeed we were disappointed not to reach the championship semi-final, with a last kick of the game free by Mullingar Shamrocks securing a draw for them and denying us in our final group game. Having played an understrength Garrycastle side earlier in the league and earning a comfortable win, we had to be on guard and ready for our visitors as we expected a much different game this time around. We started well but from early on, it was apparent that Garrycastle had re-organised their team and they played a very defensive game which left little room for our forwards to make inroads and create real scoring chances. Despite having the lions share of possession, we held just a narrow three point lead at half time, 0-07 to 0-04. We emerged much more organised in the second half and with us moving the ball quicker we began to slowly build on our lead, scoring thirteen second half points in the process. The lads showed great patience in their play and there was great teamwork throughout. We now play Athlone in the final, fixture details tbc. Team: Jamie Keenan, Mark Killian, Cian Gavigan, Tiernan McMahon, Zach Wright, Paddy Doran, Fergal O'Brien, Morgan Gavigan, Darragh Seery, Conor Murphy, Peter Reynolds, David Jackson, Barry Bolger, Eoin Glennon, Jack Gallagher. Subs: Warwic Kirby, Cody Finnane, Mark Kiernan, Lorcan Kiernan, Luke Seery, Peter Dalton.

U8/U10 Blitz

Lilliput Gaels hosted an U8 and U10 blitz on Saturday in Castletown Geoghegan where we welcomed visiting Garrycastle. On a beautiful sunny morning, all teams played great football in all the games. Thanks to everyone who helped out and provided refreshments. Thanks also to the jersey sponsors, EBS Construction for our U8's and Wallace Diesel-Electric for our U10's.

Club Development Plans

Exciting news for our club as we prepare to carry out new developments at Páirc an Bhodhráin in 2020 to coincide with the centenary celebrations of our club! The new developments will see the installation of a new floodlit training pitch and upgrade to our existing walking track lights. The addition of the new training pitch will be of massive benefit to our underage and adult players, providing additional playing space, being ideal for winter training and will ease the burden on our existing playing surface especially in Winter and Spring. Many members of our community use our walking track on winter nights and they will be happy to know that with our planned upgrade, we will be able to light up our walking track every evening once complete. Huge preparation has already gone into the planning of these developments. Now we need the support of the community at large and our adult and juvenile populations to make this a reality. We are preparing to launch a fundraising campaign to raise the matching funding required. On Saturday 28th September, we are having a club social night where we will announce and launch our plans in The Bodhrán. We'd love if you can come along so please spread the word among family and friends.
