U17 Football Championship

Lilliput Gaels 1-07  St. Martins 3-17

Our U17 footballers exited the championship at the first hurdle on Saturday when they came up against a very strong St. Martin's side. St. Martin's are an amalgamation of Millmore Gaels and Maryland/Tang and with both of these sides operating at division one at minor level, we were always facing an uphill battle. Our cause wasn't helped when we had to field without four of our eight eligle U17's but this gave our U16's the chance to step up against quality opponents in advance of their U16 final this coming weekend. To our lads credit, we started the game brightly and registered the opening point of the game in our first real attack. Soon after, Cody Finnane cooly finished a good move to the net and we were playing well. Gradually, St. Martin's settled into the game and started to take their scores with Ben McGauran scoring a goal around the midway point in the half to edge them ahead. St. Martin's had the momentum by now and they finished the half strong with a second McGauran three pointer putting them 2-08 to 1-05 ahead at the break. The second half was disappointing from our point of view as we struggled to keep with our opponents. We created a number of chances but the most we could put on the board was two points as our hosts moved up through the gears to run out deserving winners in the end. Our lads played manfully until the final whistle and we saw some tigerish defending and battling qualities which was a credit to the team. Well done to all and the best of luck to our U16's in their final against Shandonagh at the weekend while we also wish our minors the best of luck in their semi-final against Garrycastle on Wednesday evening. Team: Peter Dalton, David Jackson, Cian Gavigan, Ryan Boyne, Luke Seery, Tiernan McMahon, Shane Doran, Darragh Seery, Conor Murphy, Cathal Elliffe, Peter Reynolds, Warwic Kirby, Cody Finnane, Killian Bolger, Mark Killian. Sub: Niall Claffey.

U14 Football Championship

Lilliput Gaels 3-14  Moate All Whites 3-10

We were back in championship action on Thursday evening in Ballinagore after a break of a few weeks. We were a bit rusty in the first half and carrying a few injuries we finished the first half four points down to a strong Moate team. Ronan McLavin took a bang to the head after a super save and had to be replaced. We send Ronan our best wishes for a speedy return to action. We re-grouped in the second half and took control of the game with some well taken points by a number of players, Philip Reynolds finishing with six, three from play and three from frees. We had to take off a number of players who were carrying injuries (Peter Murphy, Jack Gannon, Shane Corcoran) and Moate got the bit between their teeth scoring a couple of late goals leaving four points in it at the end of a very entertaining game. Ronan McLavin, Andrew Dalton, Oisin Kiernan, Sean Jackson, Eoin Robinson, David Costello, Killian Jackson, Dylan Franzoni, Philip Reynolds,

Jack Gannon, Peter Murphy, Shane Corcoran, Jack Maloney, Jack Mulligan, Adam Cassidy, Morgan Redmond, Christian Dowling, Paddy Maloney, Sean Macken, Shane King, Luke Robinson, Cian Corcoran, Adam Clarke.

U14 Football Championship

Lilliput Gaels 5-07  St Loman's Mullingar 8-10

We were back in action on Sunday morning in Ballinagore against St Loman's. In a very entertaining game the final score did our lads no justice. In what was a close game throughout, it was the visitors who took their chances in front of goal. Our lads had shots come off the crossbar, the upright & and with an in-form goalie bringing off some fine saves it was not to be our day. Team: Andrew Dalton, Oisin Kiernan,Sean Jackson, Eoin Robinson, David Costello, Killian Jackson,  Philip Reynolds, Jack Gannon, Peter Murphy, Shane Corcoran, Jack Maloney, Jack Mulligan, Morgan Redmond, Paddy Maloney, Sean Macken, Cian Corcoran, Luke Robinson, Adam Clarke.

U12 Football League

Lilliput Gaels 1-11  Tubberclair 1-04

We kept up our unbeaten run in the league with a hard earned victory over Tubberclair played in Ballinagore last Wednesday evening. The first half was evenly matched with the sides going in level at the break . Our boys pulled away in the second half with some good passages of play to get the win. Team: Dylan Birch, Shane Maloney, Conor Maloney, Fionn Jackson, Sean Bolger, David O’Malley, Darragh Mulligan, Cian Corcoran, Dylan Corrigan, Luke Robinson, Patrick Maloney, Aaron Jackson, Eoin Bolger, Rory Quinn, Ciaran Doran. Subs: Oisin McCabe, Gavin Ennis, Dara Fagan, Lennon Swan, Conor Robinson, Frazier Young.

Jim McHugh Memorial U12 Tournament (Garrycastle)

Mullingar shamrocks 5-05  Lilliput Gaels 0-05

We came up against a strong Shamrocks side in the Garrycastle tournament played in Springfield on Friday evening. We found it hard to get flowing moves together in the first half as Shamrocks were winning most of the 50/50 battles and were deserving leaders at half time. We upped our game in the second half but couldn’t get enough scores due to some very good defending by our opponents. In the end the score line didn’t reflect the effort our boys put in and this will be a good learning curve for us. Team: . Dylan Birch, David O'Malley, Conor Maloney, Shane Maloney, Sean Bolger, Rory Quinn, Darragh Mulligan, Cian Corcoran, Dylan Corrigan, Luke Robinson, Patrick Maloney, Eoin Carey, Eoin Bolger, Aaron Jackson, Oisin McCabe. Subs: Gavin Ennis, Fionn McKinley, Ciaran Doran, Lennon Swan, Fionn Jackson, Dara Fagan.

Club Development Plans

Exciting news for our club as we prepare to carry out new developments at Páirc an Bhodhráin in 2020 to coincide with the centenary celebrations of our club! The new developments will see the installation of a new floodlit training pitch and upgrade to our existing walking track lights. The addition of the new training pitch will be of massive benefit to our underage and adult players, providing additional playing space, being ideal for winter training and will ease the burden on our existing playing surface especially in Winter and Spring. Many members of our community use our walking track on winter nights and they will be happy to know that with our planned upgrade, we will be able to light up our walking track every evening once complete. Huge preparation has already gone into the planning of these developments. Now we need the support of the community at large and our adult and juvenile populations to make this a reality. We are preparing to launch a fundraising campaign to raise the matching funding required. On Saturday 28th September, we are having a club social night where we will announce and launch our plans in The Bodhrán. We'd love if you can come along so please spread the word among family and friends. More details to follow closer to the time, keep an eye out on Facebook.

Best Wishes

We send our best wishes to our club chairman, Liam McDaniel, following Liam’s retirement from Bord na Móna after 42 years of service. We’d like to say take it easy and put the feet up but something tells us that’s not Liam’s style!
