Shandonagh club notes

April 23, 2019

A very happy birthday to Shandonagh stalwart Robbie Byrne who turns 50 this week. A great club man who has given immensely to the cause and will no doubt continue to do so for the next 50 years.

Merchandise Day

Thanks very much to KC Sports and especially Chris Taaffe for running the annual Shandonagh merchandise day last Saturday in the club house. Don't worry if you missed it as we will be running it again mid summer so stay tuned.

Congrats to Isobele Keena who was the winner of the Shandonagh Easter Hamper on the day.

U14 Girls

The girls recorded their first league win over Delvin at home on Thursday last. A strong performance from all the girls led to a comprehensive win. We look forward to watching this group progress.

U14 Boys

Well done to the U14 boys who played 3 group matches for Féile back to back on Saturday last. With a panel of 20 lads it was very intense on a warm morning in Rosemount. The mowers must have been broken so going was heavy!!

The boys lost the first match against Moate after a slow start however they bounced straight back to record a win against a big strong Kinnegad team. In the third match Shandonagh were too strong for Cill Óige but needed to have a good points difference to have a chance.

So attention turned to the Moate vs Kinnegad and in a very tight game Kinnegad scored in last minute for a win. Thus 3 teams had 2 wins each but later in evening it was confirmed that Shandonagh go through on points difference.

Semifinal against st Lomans on Wednesday night .

U16 Girls

Shandonagh U16 girls secured a win in their 2nd championship game last Tuesday night against Ballycomoyle on a score of 4-5 to 2-6.

The Shandonagh ladies led from start to finish getting a goal after a minute. It was an extremely close game right throughout with scores difficult to land for both sides. At half time Shandonagh led by 3 points and increased that early in the second half with a find flowing move to secure another goal. It was end to end stuff and Ballycomoyle rallied to close the gap to 2 points. However a strong finish by the Shandonagh ladies and a further goal secured a well deserved win in a very competitive group.

U12 Boys

Wednesday last saw the U12 boys take on Coralstown-Kinnegad in Shandonagh in a very entertaining game of football. The lads are gaining in strength and depth with the return of determined footballers like Tiernach Glennon and Louis Willems amongst others. The level of skill and brand of serious football all these lads are playing bodes very well for the future. Every single sub played their part to ensure a good win was had over a courageous Coralstown-Kinnegad.
