Castledaly GAA celebrated the

25th anniversary of their 1994 County Football Intermediate Championship winning team in great style with a well attended Dinner Dance and Presentation in the marvellous Grand Hotel Moate last Saturday.  Senior Chairman Joe Sheerin welcomed all present, especially those who travelled far to attend.  Joe also asked special remembrance for two very important men sadly missed, selector Ollie McLoughlin and footballer Johnny Farrell; two great clubmen who gave so much to their club and community.

Joe  briefly described the history of the occasion being celebrated; it's impact on the club both 25 years ago and also today in 2019 ; and shared his memories of that memorable year.

Joe introduced our special guest speakers County Committee Vice Chairman Frank Mescall and Senior Westmeath Football manager John Cooney, who both recalled anecdotes of their memories of Castledaly past and present; praising our hard working club members, our passionate supporters, our club history and achievements, describing the high regard the club is held in at county level, and the importance of our continued hard work while wishing us the best of luck in our future footballing endeavours.

Special guest Dinny Wynne recalled his time as trainer with 1994 and shared his detailed memories of games players selectors and his continued love for Castledaly GAA. Joe Sheerin introduced Eugene Costello as 1994 club chairman and Eugene with his legendary wit and charm called up trainer Dinny Wynne, selector PJ Fannin, and each player to receive their applause, a memorial trophy presented by John Cooney, and copy of 1994 Final from chairman Joe Sheerin. Tommy Daly, 1994 captain, spoke of the club's strength in being like a large family, and no where was greater example than our two sadly missing friends and neighbours , Ollie McLoughlin and Johnny Farrell - both families continue to be huge part of Castledaly GAA today.

In finishing the official nights proceedings Joe Sheerin called on MJ McLoughlin and John Cooney to present the Ollie McLoughlin Memorial Trophy to the 2018 Castledaly GAA Senior Player Of The Year, a popular and deserved choice, David Stone- who has shown great dedication and boundless energy in his years on senior team as both prolific scorer and steadfast defender.

Finally a massive thank you to GRAND HOTEL Moate for their usual high standard of hospitality comfort and elegance as a venue without equal. Also thanks to The Secrets who ensured a great nights entertainment music and dance. Thanks again to all who supported our night. Go raibh mile maith agaibh.

Sympathies to families and friends of Kieran Kenny Creggan Athlone who sadly passed away recently and is remembered fondly in Castledaly GAA.   Ar dhéis Dé go raibh a n-anam .
