Athlone 3-7 The Downs 3-11
The Downs, who surprisingly featured their county players, were the stronger team in the first half and lead by 2-6 to 0-5 at half-time, with Athlone's points coming from Alan Gaughan (0-3), Ryan Gaffey & Jack Quinn. Early second half goals from Darren Magee and Daniel Reid brought Athlone back into the game and a third goal from Jack Quinn had the sides level as full time approached, but a late Luke Loughlin point and an injury time goal gave the home side a four point win.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Stephen Ward who sustained a head injury during the game.

Athlone 2-14 Garrycastle 4-8
Our men's team began their ACFL Division 6B campaign with an exciting draw against neighbours Garrycastle in their opening game, played in Páirc Chiaráin on Saturday evening.
The home side started brightly and let by 0-5 to 0-1 after 15 minutes, through points from Charlie McMickan (0-2), Aidy Byrne, Diarmuid Martin and Joe Fallon. Garrycastle then struck for their first goal to bring themselves back into the game but Athlone responded well with a superb Aidy Byrne goal and further points from Martin, Fallon and raiding full-back Eoin Fahey gave them a 1-8 to 1-2 half-time lead, although they did have the benefit of a strong wind in the opening period.
Both sides added two points each in the first five minutes of the second half, Athlone's scores coming from Cathal Joyce and Dylan Lynch, before the visitors got their second goal with a close-range finish after the ball had come back off the post. They almost got in for an equalising goal almost immediately, but young keeper Rytis Liaukevicius pulled off a fine save. Garrycastle were on top at this stage and two further points followed by their third goal gave the lead for the first time. To their credit, Athlone responded really well to falling behind and points from Diarmuid Martin, Joe Fallon and Dylan restored their lead. Cathal Joyce put four points between the sides when he flicked home from close range to finish off a fine move, but any hopes that this would lead to the end of the Garrycastle challenge were dashed when they hit a quickfire 1-1 to level things up with two minutes to play. The impressive Diarmuid Martin put Athlone back in front as the game entered injury time but there was still time for one further Garrycastle attack and a long-range point with the last kick of the game left the sides level at the final whistle, on a scoreline of Athlone 2-14 Garrycastle 4-8.

U14 Girls
Well done to our U14 Girls who had a comfortable win over Caulry in our 3rd game in the group stage. With a reduced panel of 16 on the night, it was a very good team performance with everyone contributing to a well deserved victory. There were some great skills on display throughout the pitch with many fine scores from play, and great teamwork throughout. Next game is away to Kilbeggan on Tuesday May 29th.
The very best of luck to all the girls who are playing with Coosan NS in Cumann na mBunscoil Final on Wednesday 23rd May, and to the Bower Girls competing in the Leinster Final on Thursday 24th May.

Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camps
The Cúl Camp takes place in Athlone GAA from Monday, 23rd July to Friday, 27th July from 10am to 2.30pm. Attendance is open to primary school children from 6 years to 13 years. Athlone U16 Girls:
Congratulations and well done to our U16 Athlone Girls who won the Lidl Jersey/Equipment Competition.
The delighted Girls and Coaches headed out to Lidl Athlone to collect their new set of jerseys and equipment on Wednesday 16th of May.
