Happy New Year
We want to wish all our members a very happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year.
The Late George Alexander
We said goodbye last Thursday, 28th December, to a great club man and true Gael, George Alexander. George was instrumental in helping to reform the club in 1977. In 1979, when the club won the Junior League and Fr. Macken Cup against Milltown and Bunbrosna respectively, George played at full forward scoring important goals in both finals. In 1986, he was a selector when the club won the Junior Football Championship for the first time since 1940, bridging a 46 year gap. He created a piece of history in 1991 when he lined out alongside his son, Gordon, in an Intermediate B league game against Maryland. After his retirement, he always remained actively involved in the club, supporting the team and helping out in any way he could. George, through his business, sponsored the 2005 team that captured County and Provincial Junior club football honours. George will be sadly missed by all who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends at this sad time. May he Rest in Peace.
New Manager
The club has appointed Ray Sheridan as team manager for the upcoming season. Ray is originally from Finea but he now resides in Tyrrellspass and he has played football for both sides. We want to wish Ray the very best of luck as he undertakes his new role. We also want to thank last years manager, Kevin Meehan, for all his time and effort and we wish Kevin well into the future.
Scór na nÓg Leinster Final
We are proud to say that our club is representing our county in two competitions in this years Leinster Finals which take place on Sunday 14th January in the Wexford Opera House. Jemma Seery competes in the solo-singing discipline while Shane King takes to the stage in the recitation competition. Both of these young contenders have many years of Scór participation in front of them so it is a magnificent achievement to have reached the provincial final. However, both are as cool as cucumbers and we're sure they will perform excellently in Wexford. We wish them both the very best of luck.
Townland League
Our 8th Annual Townland League takes place on Sunday 21st January. Junior Games start at 12 noon and the Senior games start at 2pm. There will be refreshments throughout the day. This tournament has been a great way to start off our year since 2011. One of the main organisers of the league was our dear friend Eoin Miller. It was Eoin's idea to involve all of the pupils in Ballinagore NS in a project to create a collage of the townlands and landmarks around Ballinagore which helped develop the kids association with their village and their club to this day. Let us all come out on the 21st of January to support the day, remember Eoin and celebrate community and club!
