Guiry not looking past next game

Dick Guiry insists The Nire aren't looking beyond tomorrow's Munster club SFC semi-final against Miltown Malbay.

With Dr Crokes and St Finbarr's meeting in the other semi-final, there's a golden opportunity for either of the Waterford or Clare champions to reach the provincial final. The Nire were hugely impressive in their quarter-final win over Adare last Sunday, but their manager believes tomorrow's game against a Miltown team who have former Kerry and Mayo coach Donie Buckley involved in their set-up is too close to call.

“I’d be calling this a 50/50 game. Miltown will be coming to Dungarvan to win, and we’re going to Dungarvan to win. It’s a longer drive for them but that’s not going to affect them, they’re county champions," Guiry told the Irish Examiner.

“Will it be the same as the last day (against Adare)? I’d say that’s very unlikely, but that’s sport. They (Miltown) have a few big names, but the one thing we do know about them is that work ethic is a huge strength of theirs. They bring back numbers and defend in depth, but they’re not what you’d call a wicked defensive team either.

“Having someone like Donie Buckley on the sideline is an advantage, obviously, he’s been around the block and he won’t be fazed by Fraher Field - he’s anything but a greenhorn, you could say.”
