Connacht Council secretary John Prenty has warned Mayo fans travelling to next year’s Connacht SFC opener against New York in the Bronx that they may be left short of tickets.

Tickets are only set to go on sale at Gaelic Park on the day of the game (May 5) and, with a capacity of just 4,500, Prenty reckons some fans could be left disappointed after making the trip.

“From the numbers I’m hearing, I think a lot of the Mayo people who are going (to New York) are going to find it very difficult to get a ticket for the match,” Prenty told Mayo GAA TV.

“I think that’s something they should bear in mind before they decide to travel. Knowing Mayo people, they’re in the habit of going to games early, but I just don’t know what the situation is going to be in New York.

“My advice would be, if you’re going to New York, go for the craic and not necessarily for the game.”

Mayo’s last visit to New York for a provincial championship opener was in 2014.
