The battle out west starts this Sunday with two Connacht senior football championship quarter-finals down for decision in New York and London.

The winners of New York and Leitrim in the Big Apple take on defending champions Roscommon three weeks later and it's hard to envisage anything but a win for Kevin McStay's men, especially when you take their recent league campaign into account.

Of course, the date that all eyes are fixed on is May 13th when the old rivalry in this province between Mayo and Galway gets renewed in Castlebar.

Last year's beaten All-Ireland finalists certainly have a score or two to settle with their neighbours, but must do so without the services of their best player in former Football of the Year Lee Keegan.

The Tribesmen have been the team of the season thus far in the eyes of many and should have no real issue in accounting for either London or Sligo if they pass another test against Stephen Rochford's men at McHale Park next Sunday week.

Once again, it's looking like coming down to the 'Big Three' in the race for the JJ Nestor Cup and the formbook as of late is suggesting that a hot summer's in store for Kevin Walsh's Galway side in 2018.
