Ulster MFL final: Tyrone have that little bit extra

April 15, 2019

A view of the Monaghan and Tyrone jerseys.

Tyrone staged a stirring comeback to beat Monaghan by 1-17 to 1-10 after extra-time in the Ulster MFL final at Glen on Saturday.

A Liam McDonald goal helped Monaghan to a seven-point lead in the first half of normal time, but Collie Holmes' Red Hands were level within eight minutes of the restart thanks to a Daniel Fullerton major.

It was nip-and-tuck thereafter as the sides finished level on 1-7 apiece at the end of the 60 minutes. But Tyrone took over in extra-time with subs Mark Devlin and Shea Browne making a telling contribution. With their Ulster MFC opener against Down fixed for next Saturday, Monaghan will need to recover quickly.

Down were also in action on Saturday in the Ulster MFL Shield final in Clones. They led all the way until Jack Lavin's injury-time goal handed Sligo a dramatic 1-9 to 1-8 victory
