Kildare manager Joe Quaid was proud of his side's efforts in their historic clash against Kilkenny at the weekend.

It was the first time ever that the sides met in a senior hurling match as they went head to head in the Walsh Cup clash at Freshford last Sunday afternoon.

The Lilywhites did themselves proud especially in the first half, when they trailed by just four points at the break, 0-09 to 0-05, but inevitably the Cats pulled away in the second half to run out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 3-18 to 0-08.

Speaking to the Leinster Express after the game, Quaid stated that his players had given it their all against one of the best sides in the country.

"Our lads gave as much as Kilkenny gave," said Quaid. "They gave everything on the field; there were lads coming off absolutely knackered, this is all we look from them; this will stand to them."
