Colin Fennelly has been appointed Kilkenny senior hurling captain for the coming season.

The Kilkenny People is reporting that the four-time All-Ireland winning forward has been nominated by his club Ballyhale Shamrocks to lead the Cats in 2020, taking over the role from his club-mate TJ Reid. Another Ballyhale man, Joey Holden, has been named vice-captain.

The appointment crowns a memorable week for 31-year-old Fennelly who helped Ballyhale to back-to-back All-Ireland club SHC titles at Croke Park last Sunday. Kilkenny open their Allianz League campaign against Dublin in Nowlan Park on Sunday, but are expected to be without their Ballyhale contingent.

The Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues are back this weekend and so is the Hogan Stand Match Tracker. Join us on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon for live score and updates from the opening rounds.
