Laois manager Eddie Brennan has described Aaron Dunphy's sending off against Tipperary as 'wishy-washy'.

The Borris-in-Ossory Kilcotton player received a straight red card early in the second half for an apparent strike on Paudie Maher. Brennan questioned whether there was guesswork involved on the part of the match officials.

"I've looked at it there," he said in an interview with RTÉ after the O'Moore County's fairytale season ended with a 10-point defeat

"You can see it's wishy-washy. It is what it is. I am more concerned with the vision that, was it seen by the officials? I would question that. I just think that yes we can see something on television but to me there was an element of guesswork that went on there."

The former Kilkenny star said that going down to 14 men scuppered Laois' hopes of performing another giantkilling act.

“It certainly made our task really, really difficult. And at that stage, you are even going, you could be in for a long evening. In fairness to the lads, they stuck at it," he continued.

“It probably did have an impact on us, it took the pressure off Tipp and we had been putting them under pressure at times. But they are a quality outfit, they did what they had to do and to be fair to them, they did not take us for granted in any way, shape or form and they stuck at it.”
