Cavan manager Mickey Graham admits that leaving Mullinalaghta after such a glorious period is difficult.

Graham guided the club to three Longford SFC titles in a row before winning the Leinster club SFC championship before Christmas, becoming the first club from the county to do so.

Their run came to an end last Saturday when they fought gallantly against Kerry kingpins Dr Crokes in the All-Ireland club SFC semi-final, but their efforts just came up short on the day.

Graham now walks away from the role as he focuses on his job as Cavan senior football manager, but he admitted to the Longford Leader that the memories will last him a lifetime.

“I don’t know if I will ever experience anything like this in my lifetime,” stated Graham. “I’m coming from a big club in Cavan Gaels and a Cavan team that has never won an Ulster senior club title.

“A Longford club had not won a Leinster club championship before Mullinalaghta came along and look what they have done.

“It will probably be in years to come when I am sitting down and saying ‘what an achievement it was,.”

He added: “I will definitely get over and watch the games. I have great interest in Longford club football. I think it’s a great championship and I will go over and cheer the lads on.”
