Limerick boss John Kiely has stressed the need for improvement, despite his side's 28-point drubbing of Carlow in last Saturday's All-Ireland SHC preliminary round quarter-final.

Beaten Leinster finalists Kilkenny are certain to provide a much stiffer test for the Treaty County in Sunday's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final at Semple Stadium.

"Obviously, there's going to need to be a huge step up again in the next round and that's what our focus turns towards in the quarter-final," he told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"For us, the recovery and preparation starts straight away. It's all about next week. We go back to the training ground Tuesday and Friday night and get as ready as possible.

"It is big, although it's no different to any game we played in the round-robin in Munster and the series of games in the league against Galway, Tipp and Clare. There's no real difference to it in that regard, it's just coming into a different time of the year."
