A lot done and a lot more to do was a phrase we have heard in the past and it could be the motto that Westmeath manager Michael Ryan uses to describe their season so far.

Three wins out of three in the Joe McDonagh Cup have Westmeath sitting top of the table with two rounds to play. They are favourites to secure one of the two top spots in this second-tier championship.

Despite being delighted with their results so far, Ryan is not getting carried away and stressed to the Westmeath Examiner that they have two very tough games coming up.

Last weekend's hard earned victory over Kerry followed wins over Laois and Meath in the previous games and Ryan believes they need one more win to secure a top-two place.

"Antrim are coming to Mullingar in two weeks' time and they will probably need to win the game as well, so that won't be an easy battle. After that, we're down to Carlow and they will be fighting for their lives as well," said Ryan.

"We haven't qualified yet and it will probably take another win to guarantee qualification. When you look at the full year, we have played nine games in league and championship and won eight of them. It hasn't been all perfect but we're slowly building momentum."
