Diarmuid O’Connor has been declared fit for Mayo's Connacht SFC semi-final against Roscommon on Saturday week.
The Ballintubber clubman, who captained the Westerners' to Allianz League glory at the end of March, missed the provincial opener against New York in Gaelic Park a fortnight ago after fracturing his eye socket during training. However, he confirmed at last night's press event in Castlebar that he will be fit to face the Rossies at Elvery's MacHale Park.
"I got good news this week, the injury has cleared up. I’m back training this week and looking forward to trying to get my jersey back," he told RTE.
"It’s frustrating missing any game, I don’t like missing an A v B game in training or a championship game. So I’m just delighted to be back."
Mayo manager James Horan admitted that the Roscommon game will come too soon for Diarmuid's older brother Cillian, who hasn't featured for his county since undergoing a knee operation last December.
"Cillian is making progress, but he won’t be in contention for the Roscommon game. It will be close but we won’t be togging him at this stage. He’s progressing well but it just might be too soon.
"We’re down to the last few weeks of his rehab and he’s just not match ready," said Horan, who is also set to be without ankle injury victim Seamie O'Shea.
