Heading into their NFL Division 4 opener against Leitrim this Sunday, Wexford manager Paul McLoughlin feels that preparations for the league game have gone well.

The Model County will be bidding for promotion this year having missed out on it last year.

Speaking to the Wexford People, the former Kildare footballer revealed that the squad has been working hard over the last few months.

“Training and preparation have gone well,” said McLoughlin. “We have had sufficient games over the past month. The work has been done, so now it’s down to getting matters right for the day.

McLoughlin feels that Leitrim will provide them with a stern test this weekend, having watched them in recent weeks.

“Leitrim play a bit like Cavan which is to be expected under their new manager. (Terry) Hyland perfected a style with Cavan which he has now brought to Leitrim.

He added: “It’s a huge game for Wexford. We need to take points away from home, as I believe ten points would get us promoted.

“It’s important to be winning games as it brings confidence to the players. It’s a big game of that I’ve no doubt but the players are looking forward to it.”
