Jim McGuinness reckons that Dublin’s dominance could be threatened by football’s new handpass rule.

The 2012 All-Ireland winning manager feels the new three-limit handpass rule which officially began being trialled this past weekend in the O’Byrne Cup could make it easier to take on the Dubs for the forthcoming season.

“I think they will impact on Dublin,” McGuinness is quoted saying by The Irish News. “They have morphed into this really classy possession-based team that can dominate the opposition and wait for them to break from their defensive structure and then penetrate in behind that.

“They had the capacity to (pass) short or medium and draw teams forward so they could go long but now everybody knows that the ball will be going long and that creates a different dynamic.

“Can Jim Gavin come up with something to get around that? That's the next question but two of the weapons in his Arsenal have been taken away – he had short, medium and long and now the short and the medium are gone and there's only long left.

“It'll be interesting to see how that's going to pan out but when you have the best players in the country then they'll find a way.”
