Wicklow chairman Martin Fitzgerald has hailed the generosity of Limerick businessman JP McManus who has donated €100,000 to every county board in the country.

The money is to be divided equally to the clubs within those counties and Wicklow clubs will receive just over €2,500 each.

In total, McManus is donating €3.2 million to the GAA and the lifelong Limerick supporter has gave his own county massive financial backing in recent years.

Fitzgerald told the Wicklow People that the money will be well received by the clubs, many of who are under financial pressure.

“I’m delighted,” said Fitzgerald. “A lot of clubs are struggling in this county and this will be a big help to those clubs.

“I think it was a very generous move and it shows that JP McManus didn’t forget his roots through this windfall for the smaller counties. He has looked after everybody.”
